Wow! What a great story, thanks for posting! Can't wait to see some pics :)

One time I dropped my iPhone 3GS face down from about 5-6 feet onto the concrete sidewalk of New York City. It was perfectly fine, barely even scratched. I was amazed. Doesn't compare to your story at all, but even that was traumatizing for me hah.

ok so he got his phone back yesterday, and there is seriously no pictures to post!

its in PERFECT condition, and it may be too hard to believe, but there is maybe one tiny scratch on the back that is unnoticeable...

60+ mph
40+ ft. up
falls out of pocket...

survives with almost NO cosmetic or hardware issues...

Please post pictures any way. This could go on the front page ofMacRumors, or at least 9to5mac.

Eh. A good person would have turned it in to lost & found instead of pocketing it and seeing if anyone tried to claim it.

Depends. If I found in a park I'd keep it too. I don't trust the park staff and I'd think it was like handing them a present.

how interesting...I went to Six Flags just a few days after getting the phone, and I considered taking the phone in with me. Needless to say, waiting in lines without a phone was boring, but I clearly did the right thing.

The coaster parks by me (pa/nj) all have lockers either at the ride entrance or by where you actually board the coaster. I always have my iphone with me, the the i4 is no exception. Great story!

Well, I would have taken my phone with me. I'm not going phoneless because I'll be riding rides. I'll just wear pants with cargo pockets, or hand it off to someone in the group who won't ride. I didn't buy a sweet phone to not take it with me, lol.

I would also like to see pics of said phone. It must just be the way the phone hits that dictates weather or not the phone breaks. I would imagine that it is the most vulnerable at the corners. A case or bumper coupled together with the "gorilla glass" would
actually be pretty durable. It would be nice to see some drop tests done on phones with bumpers on.

Wow, phones that drop 1.5 ft shatter, yet this one survives flying off a roller coaster...

Unfair to say. That iPhone that was dropped at 1.5 ft had no internals whatsoever. Who knows what impact that would have on a falling iPhone.

About two hours after getting mine, it slide off a bench onto the ground and took some nice chips off the front screen.. Your friend is very lucky..

Oh, well I was actually talking about the few examples I've seen on this board. Real iphones falling less than 3 feet and shattering. some onto carpet...

Stands to reason because remember, that glass is used in helicopters. So it's used to flying, not being trounced on by a 4 yr old!

Me and my sons were just at Six Flags over Georgia on July 2. I made sure we stayed off rides that would causes me to damage or lose our iPhone 4’s. If we wanted to ride the wild rides, we had someone in our group hold anything that would fall out of our pockets. We also wore cargo shorts that had pockets that closed up securely so our phones or my car keys wouldn’t fall out. While we were there we observed people losing everything from hats, shoes, keys and phones from some of the rides. It’s always best to leave the valuable in the car or with someone not riding.

cargo shorts / pants.....ziplock bag..... = not losing your stuff on rides.

*not to mention it gives you water protection as well*

The phone probably either hit someone, landed in grass, or landed on its front.
