Wimax is slower than AT&Ts standard 3G in most places and certainly slower than hspa+

I have to disagree with this statement. My WiMax is faster than my at home DSL every time I've used it and was able to connect to it (various places across the vastness that is Los Angeles and also Chicago where 4g coverage is even better than LA). Of course not being able to connect to it may be a problem, but I was easily getting 5-7 Mbps on Sprint WiMax using my EVO 4G vs the 3-4 Mbps of the At&t iPhone 4S speedtest screen grabs I've seen on these boards.

I just went from a 3GS to a 4 and the speed difference isn't all that noticible, though the retina display is fantastic.

Is the 4 to 4s the same kind of speed comparison?

I personally found the speed difference between the 3GS and the 4 to be massive - it was a great upgrade. I recently sold my iPhone 4 and bought a 4S. It's hard to explain how different they feel but everything on the 4S seems snappy and 'ready to go' all the time. Switching between apps and general day-to-day use on the 4S is great - I'm really pleased with the upgrade! :)

I found the difference between the 4 & 4S to be negligible. On day 14 of having a 4S, I took it back to the Apple store for a refund, and have since bought another new iPhone 4 for £125 less.

From my point of view, Siri is a gimmick which I'm unlikely to use often, the camera is slightly better, and I couldn't notice any difference in speed, so I'd rather pocket the diffrence in value between the two.

Depends where you are located. Some areas WiMax/4G is faster, others hspa+. On paper Wimax/4G theoretically is faster ethan hspa+, but real world result varies drastically.

I am getting 6-8Mbps on my AT&T iPhone4S in my area

Well I am in a heavily congested area and still getting great speeds I know out here the hspa+ are definitely slower than wimax. I suppose the best way to test is to find someone with wimax in your area to speed test next to you.
