The line about "employees taking lunch breaks" was rich. Lunch breaks?! WHAT?! How dare they. Who ever heard of such a thing as labor laws??

I work in professional sports, and even during the championship series, guess what - we get lunch breaks too! Even with 22k people waiting outside to get in. We also get to eat dinner! What a shocker that I'm allowed to eat twice during an 18 hour workday, like that of many Apple employees yesterday. Sorry but that one line just got to me - for your convenience, you'd rather I go hungry? When I pass out, you're gonna be waiting in line even longer as the paramedics tend to me.

This is almost as hilarious as the man in my iPhone 4 line last night that said "How will I be compensated for my 3 hours of waiting? Do you see this face? I got sunburned!" Apple - and all of us in line - got a good laugh out of him, then got our phones before him, too.

So much truth in this. I completely agree.

The OP has some weird sense of entitlement. It's sad, really. Everything he wrote should have been obvious to him beforehand. Common sense should have warned him. Unfortunately... that didn't work out too well.

Thanks for the pics iRabid. My wife used to work in that mall. She hated the heat! I just can't help but think about the guy who sued McDonalds for spilling coffee because there was no "caution: hot" warning on it. Did the op want someone to email him and say "Caution: Phoenix is hot, iPhone release day lines are long"?

No prob lorenwade.

All in all you don't have to get it the first day. If you do, don't complain about it cause you're not forced to get it the first day. Then expect everything to go smoothly.

I don't think most people have any common sense these days, which is a shame. Hopefully one day it'll change, but until people realize they're no more entitled to something than the next person (generally speaking), I don't think it'll get better anytime soon. :(

This is the most ridiculous complaint letter I have ever seen. You were completely insane to think you could just show up and waltz in to get a new Apple gadget on launch day.

Didn't have time to wait in line? Wait until there is no line. Apple never held a gun to your head you self-entitled snot.

Totally agree here.

First things first, where have you been for the last 3 years of iPhone launches? Was it really a surprise that hundreds and thousands of people line up at each store? Apple has been activating in store before you leave since the launch of the 3G. This is no different than any other Cell Phone purchase at any other Cell phone retailer in the country. Every carrier from sprint to US cellular activates your phone before you leave.

So, was this Apples fault that hundreds of thousands of people showed lined?
I think the Blame lies with you for not doing due diligence and Planning YOUR day better.

Lastly, I would like to say this. It is not very often that any company in history has ever had a product that draws the masses that apple does. Not only is it an astronomical amount of people, but they have to co-ordinate with a totally seperate company to make sure things go well.

I think apple does a decent job. Better than any other I could think of.

Totally, the only thing I've seen close to it have been the PS3/Wii launches and new Star Wars movies. And those are one-off occurrences, this is an annual event.

If you didn't want to stand in line, why the hell did you show up so early? I picked mine up at 5pm because I had to work.

I do have some issues with how they handled it though . It took me about 20 minutes once I got into the store to get my phone. It should've taken 5. I don't need to greet the person selling me the phone. I don't need to shake his hand. I don't need to know his name. I don't need to look at the phone, I reserved it because I want it. I don't need to be asked (one-by-one) about mobileme, applecare, cases, docks, etc. I wanted to walk in, pay, and walk out. They made it a lot more difficult process than it had to be, but that is pretty typical.

I stopped reading after about halfway because my brain started to hurt. I did not see any problems in the first half though. I then skimmed it again and did not see anything to complain about, or worth calling a fiasco. Were you not aware that phoenix is hot? I haven't lived there in years, yet could still tell you without checking the weather that Phoenix would be hot outside during the day.

This is the most ludicrous post ever.

Thank you, sir. I have laughed harder at your comment then I ever have on MR.

After reading the comments, I had to actually read the OP. This is now my favorite thread EVER. I realize personal attacks are frowned upon here, but I do not know how else to put it.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

OMG employees were allowed to take their legally mandated lunch breaks after working untold hours to get your line to move?

Customers had the nerve to resolve their issues in-store, in one visit, and hold you up (after waiting JUST AS LONG AS YOU)? HOw dare they. They should have come back AGAIN.

Phoenix had the gall to be HOT? IN THE SUMMER? What an A**hole.

Please leave and never come back. But before you do, can you send that to SJobs@apple.com (its valid, I promise) and then post the response? I can't wait to see.

Aww while you suffered in the heat for your advanced phone, this kid was dying of starvation in Africa.

My heart goes out to you, though.

Sorry, I know this is a silly question. Why does Apple force activations when purchasing iPhones at Apple retail stores?

Everyone that purchased online and has their phone delivered activates their phones later, right?

This is the 4th iPhone launch... it's aways a mad house... next time wait a few weeks until things calm down. If you own a business selling a products you can not control the weather and a lot of poorley prepared customes who want the product on day 1 ! If idiots were trees Phoenix would be a rain forest and not a desert!

Thank you for quoting the OPs entire message.

Ok I had to share my experience in the Phoenix area. I tried to order my iPhone 4 online on 6/15 for 2 hours that morning. I remembered something about an Apple store app and used it. I reserved my phone in 2 minutes after that. I picked an indoor mall of which there are 2 of the 5 in the valley are indoor I believe. I told my wife I was going in the afternoon because I wanted to miss the craziness. I saw the news and line pictures online and decided to go at 2pm. My wife asked wont they hold it untill Friday. I told her that if I waited till Friday I would probably have to wait till mid July. I made the choice to get it now. I was there for 45 minutes. I realize that the op does not live close to those two malls, but the phones were reserved till close of business. I received a couple of emails reminding me of that fact. I also saw on the news when the other iPhones launched and most recently the iPad that there were always lines. I got my iPhone at about the same time as the op but with some planning and gas money( I do not know about anyone else but my time in 113 degree heat is worth a little gas money) I had a much different experience. Sorry about the long post but unless the op moved to Phoenix on Wednesday, he should have known about the weather issues at an outdoor mall. fyi the apple salesman that sold me my phone was extremely nice and upbeat and hea had been at work since 5am and wasn't sure when he was going home and didn't seem to mind, boy I hope he got a long lunch and a few breaks.

OP:

I live in Phoenix. I've been to all iPhone day one sales (except this last one). I would NEVER go to Biltmore to wait in the summer!

Damn Apple! Can't they do something about the iHeat in iRazona??

I'm gonna have a freakin' iStroke out here while you're HAVING LUNCH!
:p

You should have the person who held the gun to your head and forced you to go do all this arrested.

Oh wait...

Wow, this post reaffirms my belief that the end of civilization is imminent.

#1 - It's just a freaking phone, it can wait. They WILL make more.

#2 - Unless you actually enjoy waiting in line, then waiting in line is for pillocks.

#3 - If you absolutely must have a new phone on iPhone launch day, then go to a Verizon, Sprint or T-mobile store.

I would have, if given the opportunity, ordered on-line and not participated in the madness......I guess you all missed the part about the Apple and AT&T websites crashing on the 15th.

I guess you missed the part where a good number of us managed to place orders online, on the 15th, despite the persistent problems. I almost gave up - in fact, I did, several times, and came back to it later. My order was placed via apple's website around 7PM CDT.

People line up for phone releases. People have lined up around the block for the last 3 (4?) roll outs. Why would you have expected this to be any different?
