At this point, we have a very good idea of what the next generation iPhone will look like. It seems specs and spare parts of the device are also readily available in Chinese markets. We still can't be sure if these specs are entirely legitimate or not. The Apple iPod/iPhone accessory market is huge so there is enormous financial incentive for accessory companies to begin production as soon as possible.

Ideal-case recently sent out an email to customers advertising their new "iPhone 4GS" case which resembles the leaked design. We suspect Ideal Case's announcement is based on these early design/part leaks and they are simply trying to cash in on the early hype.

We've seen this wishful thinking gone wrong in the past with the iPod Touch with camera cases that were leaked in 2009. While the iPod touch with camera was an actual prototype device, it's not the one that made it into final production.

Meanwhile, iPhone Portugal was able to actually purchase parts from China of the edge casing for what is believed to be the next generation iPhone.
These parts were purchased in China by one of our readers (weren’t stolen or found) then delivered to us. We will not reveal the price. Are those parts genuine? We can not know but we can tell for sure those parts are perfect, have no defects, not faulty at all, there is not even one single difference between the 2 copies we have.
They shot this video of the pieces in detail to demonstrate the high quality workmanship of the parts:

Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone at next week's WWDC event.

I don't believe the edge casing video. Jony and Steve won't allow for screws at the bottom. Period.

This is one iPhone design I do like! Much like the original beautiful in it's simplicity.

Yet every other iPhone has had screws!

I can't wait till the debut of the 4G in the keynote - "here's the iPhone you all have already seen." ;)

and if I recall the macbooks have (or had) smaller screws....

Yeah, but look at the iPad. Aluminum casing on the back/sides, no screws. The other iPhones have had plastic on the back/sides.

what does that have to do with anything?

and yet you

Hmm, the parts are apparently from China, but the text in that picture is Japanese. I'm not familiar with how things "work" in Asia, so does that sound dodgy or normal?

You can tell by the video the quality of the iPhone frames are amazing and very intricate, I believe these are genuine. As for the screw holes the iPhone 3G and 3GS both had screw holes. I believe this is partially done to ,ake it easier to assemble / repair by Apple. The prototype that had no screw holes may have been rejected for various reasons.

"seams"*

it adds style, for one.
i don't know if it serves any real function;
i like them though.
makes it so more gadget-y.
or like a solid structured piece of hardware.

maybe it will be used for accessories, like cases can latch onto the seam. or docks, etc etc. more stability.

I'm still wondering why there are 'seems' in the aluminium (aluminum) casing.

I remember reading about these "seems" as they are placed to match each other on either side - I believe what they refer to as "aesthetically positioned" some thought this was for a removable battery, but I believe this was quickly proven incorrect. Every other aluminum based Mac hardware has none of these seems, so I think it's done for a reason - trick is what reason.

Maybe any industrial engineers / designers out there can advise further info. Also I don't believe the "4GS" will be the final name as this implies the phone would support 4g networks, and would lead to confusion and possible false advertising issues.

Style, yes. But Apple's style? Not really. Show me another Apple product that deliberately uses seams for style.

I'm with others who think that the sides are not part of the final design. God, how can things like huge rounds buttons even pass Ives' design standards? So very un-Apple like.

I agree. It really doesn't seem like an Apple product just because of the current designs we are used to. Maybe this design will start to reflect on their other products as well though?

iPhones are for adults, and is not a toy.
even though a majority of the apps are games,
and porn is not promoted.

Actually the top seem acts as a separator separating the headphone Jack (music) from the rest of the top which kind of says this part is for music - subtle I agree but seems to work.
