So the 4S hardware is not only capable of 720p 60fps video, there are even config parameters already in place for doing so, it simply isn't exposed in the Camera app? How is the quality? This would actually tempt me to jailbreak, which has never been something that's interested me before.

In low light quality is not as good!
Should a developer creates an app for us to switch from one mode to another!

If you hear me! ;)

Modify this file "AVCaptureSession.plist" in the folder
1 : Root/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaToolBox/N94
with ifile or ssh!

2 : In avcapturesessionpreset1280x720p60/livesourceoptions
MaxFrameRate 60
MinFrameRate 60
TemporalNoiseReductionMode 0

and save

3 : And change file name AVCaptureSessionPreset1280x720p60 by AVCaptureSessionPresetHigh

Enjoy!!:D

Hi there.

I have no iphone 4 to try! but you can try to find the file, then edit it as shown for the iPhone 4S! it must be in folder n90!

I hope Apple would allow a 720p option. Most 1080p videos on YouTube look no better than their 720p versions.
A 60fps option would be amazing, as frame rate is king, when it comes to video.
A 720p video at 60fps, would(in my opinion) look better than a 1080p video at 30fps.

I really hope Apple adds 720p @ 60FPS option in an update, that would be great, I don't need 1080p videos personally(but the options should stay for those that do of course), for me, 720p is quite adequate and 60FPS would be great and would also conserve the size.

The default camera app is super weak and lacks so many things, it does not even have a timer. We can't adjust anything, things like:

White balance
Exposure
Light sensitivity(ISO)
Contrast
Sharpness.

Can't do any of that. I know there are third party apps, but IMO these things should be in the default application.

i already opened the file and im sure that the code inside isn't the same as iphone 4s, because the things that you say to change, dont exist or it dont have the same name.

Can i send you my file, for you to see what's difference between 4 and 4s?

It could be usefull to you and to the community.

thx

1080p iPhone 4s

So its not possible to record at 60 fps at full 1080p on the iPhone 4s?

And has anyone tried changing the Sensor sizes? I am asking because when you take a picture you can see more of the picture but you change to video its only using the center of the Sensor (LiveSourceOptions>sensor) still Capture at 1080p. Its just so I get wider shot.

Cheers

Not possible, unlike on the iPhone 4. See my article.

Apple surely won't make the stock Camera app configurable, even with all the foundation (720p, VGA etc. support even in the stock plist file) already(!) built-in. They sacrifice everything (even this very important mode switch) on the altair of simplicity. You can only make the iDevices at their full potential with jailbreaking.

Have anyone tried Colin method? Hows the quality of video?

I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-12.166989,-76.969249

Low-light performance is great (despite the disabled noise reduction), so is the FPS.

I'll need to make some more resolution tests as the first ones suggest binned modes seem to have lower effective resolution. Will definitely elaborate on this q tomorrow.

iPod touch 4?

Hi,

I am just wondering if it is possible to edit plist for iPod touch 4 to film at 60fps? Its max video resolution is only 720p, so I'm not sure about how to edit the plist. The iPod touch 4 has the same same amount of memory as the iPhone 4, so if it is possible for iPhone 4 (i know it may not be), it should definitely be able to work on iPod touch 4.

Also, @colinlecor, What software are you using to edit the plist files on mac? i am using iexplorer, but this doesn't let you edit, and it doesn't show up as easily as your software.

Thanks

Yes it's a good idea! My email is colin.lecorvaisier@gmail.com!

video stabilization

hi,

so i ended up installing the repo on my iPhone 4S and it works great! I am just wondering though if this removes the video stabilisation? I was looking through the avcapturesession plist file and saw that ImageStabilizationMethod is listed as 2 for 1920x1080, while it is not listed at all in the 1280x720. If this has been disabled when shooting 60fps at 720p, is there a way to re-enable it?

cheers
