It was just an idea and I'm justifying it in this thread. I see no reasons why they wouldn't, this is macrumors after all. I guess we may as well wait until Monday and see what happens.

Rumors have a basis, in other words, someone with some actual knowledge of the inner workings and thinkings of Apple actually provide inside information or extremely well educated guesses.

You don't work for Apple right? You aren't friends with an Apple engineer or board member right? You aren't a respected writer of Apple related news right?

In other words, you can't just make up guesses and say "well, it could happen."

Rumor in "MacRumors" doesn't mean any dork on this board can make things up and take a stab at it. It also doesn't mean you should come in here and take a stab at it when Apple clearly has stated that they aren't going to release new hardware.

Here's the real deal. They won't announce hardware, that means no iPhone, at this WWDC. Why would they not pull a fast one and say "oh yea, here's one more thing" ? Here's why, the press are not showing up to the event in the droves like they did last year. Why? Because Apple told them there wasn't going to be any hardware. So what is Apple doing? They're pre-announcing what the Keynote will discuss to generate some excitement with the press. Not for me and you, for the press.

They did something pretty much unheard of, they announced that iCloud is the name of the new product. As long as I've been a member of the Mac using community, they've never pre-announced the name of a new service or product until they unveil it. What this tells me is that they're pretty desperate to get the press interested again since they're going against the norms of not showing a new iPhone. No iPhone = No big press stuff on the news and other major outlets. So they announce a brand new product and give the name of it so the press goes "well, ****, now we need to go so that we can write about this new service because people will want to know."

Your "rumor" isn't a rumor, no one is talking about a new iPhone coming out on Monday because Apple has said they won't be releasing one on Monday. Instead they're talking about iCloud, iOS 5, and Lion. Thus, your "rumor" is more of a "look at me i can create rumors that don't freaking matter and will never come true."

You sir, are doing this site a disservice. What you're doing is confusing people who don't understand this, clearly you don't either, and now there are going to be people thinking they might get a new iPhone announced tomorrow. When in actuality you had no basis upon which to stand by making these claims or assumptions.

Stop spreading baseless lies and stop trying to get yourself attention.

Wow. Some people take the internet too seriously. I have made a valid point and some people in this thread think it is plausible.

And please link me to wherever it says that Apple have said there will be no hardware refreshes at WWDC. I haven't seen anything on this or any other site saying that.

Yes I have no basis, it is an idea that I thought should be raised in discussion on a mac site. I haven't claimed it's 100% true as the majority of rumours claim, I raised it as an idea and wanted to see what others thought of it. I don't see what your problem is to be honest. If you believe that you have to work for Apple to speculate on products, then why on earth are you on this site? No one who speculates, and a role of this site is to arouse and pass on speculation, works for Apple. I haven't said anything bad to you, so why so mad?

If Apple had actually said there won't be any hardware at WWDC this year, no one would entertain the idea that there would be an iphone. Lying is not the type of PR you want to have.

Speculating on solid rumors is one thing. Speculating on non-sense is another. The speculation and discussion of rumors is typically done INSIDE the main threads posted on the front page. Users rambling about garbage typically isn't.

https://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/28/no-hardware-announcements-at-wwdc-2011/

Right there on the main site. Apple hasn't said anything specifically, but Jim Dalrymple is probably one of the most in-the-know guys out there. Thus, he's on the frontpage of the MacRumors site and has his own website, and you don't. More proof of my original argument that non-sensical garbage from common users on here isn't what the "rumor" in MacRumors means.

Secondhand rumors are now equal to Apple's official announcements? Wow, that sucks for them.

I noticed that this idea hadn't been risen by anyone and so I thought I should put it out there. If you take personal offence by someone posting in a forum without evidence or whatever then you should reconsider how important the content of this site is to you. Please, if you don't want to participate in this discussion then leave, you're not helping anyone.

EDIT: You also stated "Because Apple told them there wasn't going to be any hardware." And then you go on to say that's actually just a rumour from someone "in the know". How credible.

The Loop is a very accurate source of Apple information. MacRumors often links to articles by them on a regular basis. More often than not MacRumors has become a site that typically links to other sites that contain the rumors and is more of a "Rumor" blog roll than it is an actual rumor site.

I'd rank The Loop higher than DaringFireball for Apple related rumors. By a pretty large margin.

The comment they're working on is the fact that the invitation says See the Future of iOS 5, Lion and iCloud pretty straight forward.

It's ok, you guys can keep wishing, but it won't happen. I'll be sure to come back here on Monday and tell you all that you were wrong.

I never claimed I was right. I am just putting an idea out there and some people are both supporting and appreciating it. The role of a forum is to arouse discussion, and that's what I'm doing. If I had evidence to back up my claim then these posts would be written vastly differently, I would be claiming truth, not just saying that what I'm putting out there is possible.

I think its unlikely that they will have a new iphone at WWDC, but I do have hope and acknowledge it as a possibility. To act as though it is impossible because some rumor blog said to is beyond foolish.

I could see then doing that. Apple could lower the prices considerably on the iPhone 4 now just like they did with the 3GS

Yes, they do this every year.....but not 3 months before release. The entire idea is ludicrous if you consider history.

To assume it's impossible would be a mistake, true. But to hope or assume it to be probable is not exactly smart.

I see what you're saying about September being too late. What about an early August release? That would maintain a roughly 13 month refresh cycle, and if the 13 month refresh stays for another year then we will be in line for future refreshes in September from 2012 onwards.

Is this a joke? Only Apple knows what Apple will do. Everybody else simply guesses and sometimes they happen to guess right. No one guess is better or more informed than another. They are all guesses. I don't buy any of this insider/analyst crap.

Where I work a lot of people own Iphones and they don't know what a jailbreak is and much less what WWDC stands for, they go in to an apple store and buy whats in stock or android.

It's an idea that hasn't been raised so I raised it. Has been blown out of proportion by people taking what I put out as the sworn truth.

Something just doesn't seem right about Apple delaying the next iPhone until September all so they can give us a minor upgrade, I'd think it would tell us it's going to be a huge change from the iP4 necessitating the delay. And doesn't Apple want to stay on top?

At this point, hardware is a relatively minor thing in comparison to the software. It's the software that makes a phone. iOS 5 is probably going to be huge and will likely be a vast majority of the keynote. Since Lion has been previewed already, there might be a few minor things about Lion, but the focus will be iOS 5 and how the two (or 3) operate together. Hoping there is more interaction between Lion and iOS5 (think HP TouchPad)... I'd love to answer my texts on my computer for example.

I know. What I'm saying is that your idea probably hold as much water as some of these so called analysts. Remember the iPad 2 being delayed rumors coming from "reputable" sources?

I agree with you there, and I also see the OS as much more important than the hardware. You can have all the power in the world, but if the OS sucks, then it's pointless.

Yet again, Apple has said NO NEW HARDWARE. why would they say no new hardware then say "oh yea, here's this new iPhone" ?

It will not happen. Stop.

Yeah, because a company has NEVER mislead the media before a major press conference, right?

Also, it should be noted that Apple never said "no hardware", they just said this WWDC would be focused on software. Something they tell us every year.

Just wait and see. Anyone who says what will happen with any sort of certainty at this point just is being foolish.

When did they say anything like that? Jim Dalrymple reported it but that doesn't mean it's true.

Has anyone considered the iPhone 4S being announced on Monday and released in September? Surely that would be smart as to make something for people to look forward to, and stop a lot of people being tempted by Android devices such as the SGS2.

Not saying it's going to happen, it would be a smart move on Apple's part in my opinion though.

EDIT: (adding reasoning from my later post) I don't see why it's unlikely. In the UK, where I live, the iPad 1 price dropped significantly, about 20% cheaper, after it had been released earlier in the USA. This presumably helped to relieve stocks of it whilst gaining market share from the Xoom etc due to lower pricing.

And this is Apple we are talking about. They like to make a surprise. Think back to WWDC '10, "you think you've seen the iPhone 4, but you haven't seen anything yet". They combated all the negative hype very well.

Also, think about the other phones that were available this time last year. Barely any stood a chance against any iPhone. However, this time round, their is a myriad of competitive devices. The Galaxy S2 is selling very well, 1000000 handsets sold in Korea alone. I think Apple realise this and know they have to get their act together and pull out all the stops this summer, otherwise their market share will decrease.

No, that's actually a bad idea. The only reason they're keeping a tight lip on iPhone 5 is because of last year's leak which destroyed iPhone 3GS demand since everyone knew the new one was right around the corner.
By telling the world "here's the new iPhone, it'll come out in September though" they are practically doing the same thing that they are trying to stop. Nobody will buy an iPhone 4 if Apple mentions the iPhone 5.

Think about it, Apple has maximized iPhone 4 publicity 3 times already:
1. Initial iPhone 4 launch
2. Verizon iPhone 4 launch
3. White iPhone 4 launch

Apple is trying to milk money off the iPhone 4 as much as it can, there is no way they would announce a new iPhone in WWDC.

Companies released the black Wii, the DSi, the PSOne revision at similar points in their product cycles. The white iPhone 4 wasn't a big deal to your average guy; it's just a different color. They might be taking their "offer last year's model alongside this year's" thing to the next level by refreshing and continuing to market the iPhone 4.

In case you haven't figured it out, I really want them to announce the iPhone 5 on monday. :D My Env3 is on life support; touch screen phones on Verizon sucked two years ago. I think it's more likely than not; average joe isn't saving up to buy a white iPhone 4, he was never excited about it. Apple doesn't need to hold off on announcing the 5 to milk the white 4. when average joe lumbers on in to the Verizon store because he's due for an upgrade, Apple knows he's not going to say "ooh look a white iPhone 4, I didn't know they made those in white, I want one now!" he's going to say "What does y'all recommend?" and they're going to say "Well, our newest most powerful phone is (not the iPhone 4)."

well said,
Macrumors are for rumors, since we do not know what Apple plan to show at WWDC everything else is a RUMOR and discussing rumors on macrumors is appropiate unless you think that macrumors for for discussing non -rumor related concepts.

I see your point, but they could drop the price by 20% of the unlocked handsets, they did this for the iPad 1 in Europe after the iPad 2 had been announced. This would increase demand, and reduce excess supply.
