iPhone 4S. Announced on Monday, released in September?

Am i alone in thinking that the iphone 4 doesnt need replacing?! To me it stil feels fresh, new and fast. Yes on paper theres phones that have higher spec but thats not what apple are about. The os works wobderfully well on iphone 4 hardware and just as well on the older, lower spec 3GS.

If anything i think we will see some new features and a new look to ios that shows just how capable the hardware already is.

Next iphone? I dont care to be honest, yeah an 8mp camera and dual core processor sound great but does the iphone need it? Ask any average iphone owner and they will tell you just how amazing the current spec is. Its been said before and ill repeat it, its only us forum type who follow the tweaks so closely, most owners will be unawarw of how fast the ip4 cpu is, what ram is, how many ppi it has etc... All they care is that it works, and it works very well. Sure ios5 will come along with new stuff and most owners will be like wow! Look at this! They wont think twice about hardware.

Anyhow, back on topic...

Ios5 will be announced, we pretty much know that.

Next iphone? I think this unlikely, at least yet. They just released the white ip4, announcing the next one in 3 months time will potentially damage sales until then. I wouldnt be suprised if theres no mention of the next iphone, just talk of how capable the ip4 already is and how much better ios5 will make it...

Then again... Lets just wait and see!

But you really have no idea how fresh new and fast it'll feel once you upgrade to iOS5 right? And please stop using the white iphone as an excuse for a delay. It is not a new iPhone, just a different color. And it was supposed to be out how many months before it actually came out again? From some of these posts, you'd think that the white iPhone was the iPhone4S.

unless it's just a warmed over iPhone 4. I honestly can't imagine them putting off the release until September if it's only a refreshed ip4. That is, unless they're so confident of their market share that they believe they can still get away with releasing a new model only every two years.

Apple can't honestly believe that. Maybe 2 years ago that was the case but Android is catching up fast and releasing new phones all the time. Apple can't stand idle and release a phone every 18 - 24 months.

You seem to forget that companies usually like to see some return on their investment when they launch a product. Like it or not, the white iPhone has it's own production costs over and above the black iPhone. It would not be unreasonable to believe that Apple is letting the white iPhone sell a bit before following up with a newer model.

I don't think the white iPhone is the real reason for the delay, but to assume it couldn't be means ignoring a lot of factors. I personally think that Apple is using the Verizon and white iPhones not as a reason, but as filler because of some greater reason such as the release of iOS 5.
 
There are rumors saying that Apple is trying a new radio chip (that speaks CDMA.2000 and UMTS) in the next iPhone.

Who knows, the extra time might be for extra testing of the new hardware or maybe due to the problems in Japan.

Or maybe the release of Samsung Galaxy S 2 has made Apple realize that they need to start stepping things up in order to remain competitive among mobile phones long term. Remember, Samsung went back and redesigned their Galaxy tablet after they saw the iPad 2.... I could see Apple having to do that with their phones (but Jobs would *never* admit it).

Unless, as is probably going to be the case, the next iPhone will use the exact same shell as the iPhone 4. All that white phone dev cost will not go to waste.

Since when has Apple ever pre announced a new hardware reveal before an event? so the fact that they have not done it this year is not "proof" that it will not happen.
In fact, I think apple has purposely said they are going to talk about the other things and made no mention of the iphone to purposely suprise everyone after the disasterous leak last year.

But dropping the price wouldn't do anything if people knew that a new iPhone will be launched in a few months right?
The 3GS demand didn't decrease due to expensive unlocked iPhones, it dropped because the next generation iPhone was right around the corner, and people didn't see the point of buying the old one. Thus hampering the 3GS sales.

People already know there's a new iphone coming soon. They just don't know exactly how soon.

Well, they did the same for the iPad 2 launch in Europe, iPad prices fell by £100 or so. 3GS demand decreased because of the market knowing that there was a new phone coming out for the same price. If the iPhone 4 price is decreased after the 4S announcement, demand will increase as to balance out the lack of interest in the product, the law of demand and supply dictates so.
 
If they announce it next week the release date will probably be soon, no way would they announce it and not release for a few months, it's suicide.
 
You can tell a new phone is coming as there are an awful lot of cash back deals for iphone4's in the UK. You can get up to £160 for a new contract.
This happened last year and the year before just before WWDC or whatever it's called.
Looking forward to Monday for the 4s or 5 or whatever it's gonna be called.
Almost about time to put my 32gb iPhone4 on feabay.
 
I don't think they'll launch iOS 5 without a new update to h/w. They probably are being super extra careful about leaks this year

they have 10's of millions of people expecting a iphone release in late June or early July as usual. You can bet your ass they will let us know what is going on with it and when it will be released. If it is not released in June as usually then we will get the beta release of iOS 5 then either on Monday after WWDC or within a couple days most likely.


What could surprise everyone though is that the phone will be released as usual. Apple could have just said fack it after the whole thing that happened last year and closed its doors completely on everything including beta testing. Just remember, all these reports of a "September" release are based on 0 facts.

I hope that is true. The majority of the public are expecting a new phone, the tech community aren't. If they brought a new one out everyone would be happy.

I hope they don't come out with the new iPhone until September, that will keep my iPhone 4 resale value higher until then :D

So, while users may be expecting a 12 month refresh cycle, it isn't unheard of for Apple to shift their cycle around as new products come in and out of the ecosystem.

Because of the previous cycle, Apple was usually showing off the iOS update in March/April, and the hardware at WWDC. This is a weird alignment if you think about it. You have the iPad coming out at the same time as the iOS developer press announcement. And at WWDC, they are talking about the GM build of iOS and the hardware it was written for.

I definitely see Apple willing to suffer a couple months of customer disappointment of no refresh to make a more sane release cycle:

March/April: iPad
June: iOS, OS X, Software/Services @ WWDC
September: iPhone & iPod Touch for holiday sales (w/iOS release)

But Apple always announces iOS betas before they launch the final version, and that too with the latest iPhone. Do you think Apple would release the iPhone 5 in WWDC running iOS 4?

I think majority of the public that is anticipating an iPhone 5 launch will be disappointed.

I'd prefer if Apple launched a better designed iPhone in September (curved back, bigger screen, fixed antenna issue etc.) than the same iPhone 4 design, labelling it an "iPhone 4S" and releasing it in WWDC.

The no hardware is rumor just like what hes trying to say. It would make sense that they would change things up because of all the leaks last year. Developers always release information, so why would they continue to giving them 3 monthes to fix a program that they could fix after ios 5.0 gm in a month.

One of the major carriers in Denmark, 3, have discounted all iPhone 4 the last week, and have taken 200$ off the price of both white and black 16gb and 32gb.
And they state "While stock lasts"

They did the same last year, with the 3GS, just before iPhone 4 launched...
