Mine dropped from 98% at 1130pm to 22% when I woke up at 1000am.

Mine was like this... but worse:eek:. Went to bed with it at 97% (at 1:30AM) woke up at 7AM (randomly) checked it and it was dead, 0%.

Since then it's been waaay better (as seen in above post) so must just be a 'it's new' thing. Hopefully will see it stabilise over the next few days.

Thats not normal for any iPhone... Try restoring it in iTunes. Iv found that on some occasions the os out of the box seems to drain the battery extremely fast, a restore should fix that. Anyways on to the question iv actually notice an impressive battery life on the new 4s. I just got done playing dead space (graphic intensive game) for about 30min. My battery started at 100% and is only down to 95%. My iPhone 4 would be around 89% if i played a game for that long.

What does everyone think about this? I personaly cant see what the stock iOS does differently OOB than restored. And if it does have a difference then the question is why.

I did a restore and then full charge and it appears better now. We'll see.

I too can say that my battery life is absolutely horrible. Much worse than I can ever remember when owning either my 3GS or my 4.

After 2hrs 42min of usage and 4hrs 16min of standby, I was down to 38%. The heaviest thing I had my phone do was play a little Army of Darkness Defense with a couple of network speed tests and a few pic messages.

How much better? I might do the same tomorrow.. Just to see if it makes a difference.

I'm not too sure that makes a difference, unless I had a bad restore or something as I did a restore just because I wanted to start it from fresh a couple hours after I got it, and that's when I started noticing the ridiculous battery drain.

Mine was already set up as a new phone so I don't even know if it'd help lol. I really cba to do it though, I've seen a pretty OK battery today and I expect it to get a bit better. I'll monitor it over the next few days. Also fiddling with settings etc to see what's the best for me :).

Ah lol. Yeah maybe it just needs to be broken in, I dunno. Not sure what I can change in Settings. The only thing that I really ever did on my 4 was turn WiFi off when I wasn't near a useful connection. Actually, I used to turn off the 3G too when I didn't need it because I thought it would kill my battery stupid fast. Needless to say, it didn't.

Got the 4S yesterday..noticed that sending just a few txts would drop it 1% within 3-5 min

Went to bed last night with 94% and woke up 6 hours later with 92% so i figured okay it's not that bad...then today it has gotten worse..right now i am at about 50% and that's about 13 hours from the 92%. Checking emails a few times..online for about 30 min and sending a few txts and playing around with settings. My 3GS battery life was horrible the last few days before i got this..but dam. I wonder since lots of people are having this issue, it's just a software update and not hardware?

if i am online it goes down 1 for every like 2-4 min it seems...deff not right and does not = what they say it should do as it never does. Standby time is worse than my 3Gs and that's saying something

Lets see if it gets better

I think we can all agree then that it's not just a one person or a Settings issue. Just have to wait and see if it's a hardware or software issue.

A five minute phone call, 4 quick check in to FB and 2 times to clear my notification center and I am at 84%. Started at about 100pm. So in 10+ hours I lost 16%.

I just drained mine to 0% and am doing a full charge now. Hopefully that will get the battery into the shape its supposed to be. Although i watched an early review which was 8 mins long, and the dude started at 69% and at the end was about 67%. 1% every 4 mins is... not good and reflects what somone else said about it dropping 1% every 3-5% and I can aggree mine does too.

Better not be hardware... It makes you wonder, apple didnt notice this issue when they started testing? I think its pretty obvious error and for 16 months wait I'd expect better. Oh well..

Over the 8 hours I was asleep last night it dropped by 7% from 52% to 45%. Which sounds about right.

Also I also noticed that texting seems to drop it quite fast. Been constantly texting since I started using i t when I woke up (for 21mins now) and it's dropped 4%.

After installing page 1 of 6 apps it had dropped to about 34%. This was after about 1.5 hours as my internet is slow it seems. So i had to charge it as by that time it was already time for me to sleep.

Ive noticed bad battery life over the first couple of days on my iPhone 4S.

Probably due to the fact 3G cannot be disabled.

I always fully charge, and let completely drain a few times with a new device. Also seen somewhere that having "Raise to Speak" on drains your battery as its always checking your phone for movement.

Did you have location reminders, bluetooth, anything like that turned on? Some people have reported a lot of battery drain during standby when they have location based reminders on.

Why don't the location based reminders make use of the gyroscope? If you're charging overnight, your phone isn't moving, so what's the point in location based reminders draining your battery?

Haven't the iOSx.0 releases always been terrible for battery ... i can remember this same old chant with iPhone4 and 3GS at least with iOS3 and 4 and was much better after the first x.0.1 release.

Definitely more background drain though, think i'm losing about 2% / hr at the moment, but i'm also mindful that i'm now using push notifications for the 1st time now with the new system, Siri a bit, playing some more games than i normally would cos its new and faster so i'm reserving judgement for at least a week until i've done a few cycles on the battery

I've seen someone suggesting a DFU restore of iOS5 onto the 4S made his life better
