The one that you bought requires you to take off your case, or else it won't fit on the clip. I had something very similar to that and it destroyed my bumper.

The one I ordered comes with 2 cradles. The first cradle is designed to fit naked iphones, and the second cradle is designed to fit iphones with any cases. I imagine that if it destroyed anyone's bumpers, then at least some of the 250+ reviews would have mentioned that, but the only negative reviews seem to be complaining about the suction.

Would Vinyl stickers work even if the case was textured?

Mine just arrived and it works well even with the case on. :)

The arms extend for about an extra half inch past each side of the phone to accomodate any case width. You then press the arms together to snap it into a position that will hold the phone snugly. There's padding to keep the arms from damaging the case.
 
I had one similar to the one shown on kickstart project. "turn and lock" worked for few months! But the locking mechanism failed resulting auto-turn back (i think spring loaded) and falling off.
 
That one that you bought is huge! There's no way I would ever be able to fit that under my windshield. It would also create a huge blind spot
 
I am using the adjustable pro clip mount I bought for my 3GS. The 4S seems to fit without much issue. I may look into the adjustable mount specifically for the 4S down the road, though.
