But if you've got two phones and one is slightly better than the other, why not use the slightly better one? You may as well.

That makes sense, I agree with that, but .................
Why sign a 2yr contract on a 4s when u can get a dirt cheap 4 and wait for the 5?
(that's what I would do and that's the opinion I voiced)
That's good advice. I actually bought a 4 for $230 to have as a backup to my 4S for when I sell it.
Why buy one now you ask? Because the current firmware is jailbreakable and who knows if another jailbreak will be released before we see the 5. The price of the 4 on 5.0.1 will only go up as more unjailbreakable firmwares are released.
He also wants an unlocked phone and, probably, does not have enough money for an unlocked iPhone. So, he might as well consider the alternatives
