it will require modifications to iPhone 4S - that is the reason...

Apple has nothing against t-mobile.

t-mobile 4G also different than HSPA+ based on some other thread ...

This is correct.
We reap what we sow. By allowing carriers to use different incompatible technology (CDMA, GSM) or selling different radio frequencies within the same technology (GSM 850, 1900, 2100, 1700) (CDMA, whatever it uses) this is the end result.
This is EXACTLY what will be happening with the various frequencies on LTE make no mistake about it. Only serious regulation will benefit the consumers here.

I never heard of them but live in Orlando and their map shows that they have coverage. Does anyone know how I can find out if their signal in my area is any good?

Here's a link to their coverage map: http://www.cspire.com/coverage/

Thank you.

And btw, AWS bands are used in US, Canada, Japan and Chile. So Apple would make up for the loss of adding an extra band to the phone.

Still doesn't matter. Look what Apple is doing with the 4S- reducing sku's and streamlining manufacturing. They don't want to go back to multiple product lines and iOS updates (like the original Verizon iPad and iPhone vs last year's iPhone4). These other carriers bought into another frequency. When you see antennas or chipsets supporting that many frequencies, then maybe. But name me one manufacturer who does this with ONE phone. (not multiple variations).

Technically, can't you just buy an iP4Gs in the states unlocked (finally) and use it on any carrier?

Or do you guys still have that activation ridiculousness?

There are a lot of penta band phones out there. But its entirely possible the data or call quality is diminished.

Wow, did something massive change in the industry in the past year?

We were stuck on AT&T for so damn long... then finally just this year, Verizon, Sprint, and now smaller carriers I've never heard of.

Why was the iPhone stuck on AT&T for so long?

I'm thinking T-Mobile was left out because of the pending acquisition by AT&T.

T-Mobile did a HORRIBLE decision a few years back to have their 3G on their own frequency, rather than follow suit with the rest of the world.

Now they have to live with it.

No I'm serious. Name me one phone I can use AT&T AND Tmobile 3G on? Or one phone that works on Sprint and Verizon without having to be flashed?

4Gs? You mean 4S?

Yes, Apple sells unlocked iPhones, but the only real option for service would be AT&T. It is not possible (according to Apple) to activate an unlocked iPhone on CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint, and T-Mobile's 3G GSM bands in the U.S. are incompatible so you'd only get EDGE speeds with them. Once you eliminate all of those options, the only remaining major nationwide carrier is AT&T. And if you're going to go with AT&T, you might as well buy it subsidized since the monthly plan costs the same whether you're on contract or not. The only real reason for a U.S. resident to buy an unlocked iPhone would be if they travel internationally a lot and want to be able to pop in cheap SIMs while overseas.

WTF? Apple is going for REGIONAL CARRIERS BEFORE T-MOBILE? God damn AT&T Merger, I know that is the real reason why Apple didn't go for T-Mobile!

And a box of Ammo of your choice.

I heard you could also get to torture a Mexican illegal too. That's only if you buy the iPhone 4S 64gb version.

P.S. I don't remember if that was in Arizona or Alabama.

While C Spire isn't that big, this is significant, since it means that Apple is expanding the distribution of the iPhone now that they have a single dual-mode model that can be sold worldwide. Perhaps US Cellular (a much larger regional carrier) will be next. It's also good for consumers since the regional carriers usually have lower rates and better customer service than the 4 larger carriers. Gaining access to a popular phone like the iPhone strengthens the smaller carriers and helps ensure their survival.

T-Mobile ought to get it because the ATT purchase looks likely to be blocked by the US Govt. Yes Uncle Sam may actually do the right thing and prevent this takeover to protect competition.

that said. it is very disappointing that Apple won't sell the phones to T-Mobile the most affordable major carrier.

That's good! Please bring it to Virgin Mobile now :)

Ain't happening. Virgin, Boost, MetroPCS. They are based on the premise that you buy your phone outright. How many of their customers would buy the iPhone4 for $549? So no, won't happen until a lower tier iPhone can be had for $299. Which is probably a couple of years out and by that time will be too late to matter for those carriers.

Intel Macs won't happen either, and neither will regional carriers ever get the iPhone ;) This just proves to me, "never say never with Apple"

^^that has been all but stopped completely in the mean time tmo is bleeding cash and dying slow.. ATnT should have gotten them the iphone to keep them profitable at least

----------

It should be clear by now that Apple is waiting to see what happens with AT&T and T-Mobile merger before seriously considering T-mobile.

it does not matter what happens..tmo needs iphone now..we have no name companies getting it but tmo cant..lol what mess..

T-Mobile DOESN'T have their "own" 3G...

T-Mobile did a HORRIBLE decision a few years back to have their 3G on their own frequency, rather than follow suit with the rest of the world.

Now they have to live with it.

That was what they were allocated by the FCC, they were small time and got the small frequency that was left over. Was not their decision.
