My friend has just sent me an iPhone from USA. He purchased the (used & unlocked) iPhone from a dealer in NJ city. I have following doubts :

1. According to the Serial No, (verified on https://selfsolve.apple.com) it says its an iphone 4s valid purchase and out of warranty.

2. The back panel of the iPhone says
Model No : A1349 EMC : 2422 FCC ID : BCG-E 24228

I have read on few of the recent posts on the model number and they say this model(A1349) is for iPhone 4CDMA.Is it true ? cant it be used for iphone 4s originally?

The back panel is also missing the FC and CE logos. I am confused if it was changed or it is not genuine.

3. When i looked up on sndeep.info/, with the serial no. it is showing 11 months old and has a camera of 5MP. Are these two sitautions possible given the phone is and iPhone 4s.

4. How to check if the outer casing and the hardware in the iphone is genuine and upto the iPhone 4s standard?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you

Your best bet is to take it to an apple store and ask one of the guys there. Or simply compare it to an in store demo unit.

Some tricks I have learnt: Is the grill straight in the receiver? is the hole over the front facing camera straight? what are the screws like on the bottom (cross heads or pentalobe. cross head would be bad news) serial number on the sim card tray?
And finally, the thin bit of plastic around the display, gently see if you can push your nail between the glass and plastic, gently though, dont force it at all. If the two separate then you have a problem.

If it boots, it's genuine. As far as I know there are no knockoffs floating around booting iOS. The back and / or front panels may have been replaced at some point, so I wouldn't go by the serial on the back panel. Try the serial in General > About, which should be the serial of the logic board.

It works like a real iPhone and feels like a real iPhone, it will probably be a real iPhone.

It boots just fine. And the serial number checks out.
Thanks

What does "Settings > General > About > Model" show?

Model Number : MD235DN/A

Thanks for the pointers and i have tried most of them except the istore guy option(Will do that). And the overall quality of the phone is fine..its just the back cover that looks odd and the camera quality is not as expected.

Silly question : On a website where i checked with the help of the serial number( http://sndeep.info/en ). It showed everything else just fine but on the camera tab : it said 5MP. Is it possible ? I mean 4s has a 8MP camera right?

Are you worried it might be a fake Chinese clone? Take some photos and post them here so we can look. Those fakes are very easy to tell from the real ones to the trained eye. Also the software will be some basic dumbphone OS or skinned Android if it's fake, again very easy to tell from real iOS.

if i remember correctly, the CE logos only appear on phones with world capabilities since they are euro certifications. this would make them unnecessary on a US CDMA device....but i could be wrong. also, an iphone 4 CDMA model wont have a sim card slot, a 4s one will.

As a couple of other posters here have said, it sounds like the back panel may have been replaced at some point. If everything else checks out, and iOS is booting up, you dont really have anything to worry about.

[doublepost=1516462453][/doublepost]Just a quick note for anyone in future, which was probably part of this original issue also....that last number on the back of your iphone 4...the fcc #...it IS NOT 24228....THAT NUMBER IS 2422B!!! IT ENDS IN A "B" FOR BLACK, NOT AN 8!!!
