At first glance at the 4s, nothing blows the doors off.

But I think if you look at this more closely things change.

The advances - are they revolutionary or merely evolutionary? Is iCloud the most important battleground of today's digital world?

If you have an iphone 4, I understand the underwhelmed response.

But as someone with a 3gs, it's really a nice upgrade. The ONLY thing I wanted was a larger screen, but otherwise I did get everything else...

I bought two iPhone 4's on launch day and for some reason it's telling me I qualify for $199 pricing for both phones! Sweet.

IF you pre-order on 7th, do you get the phone delivered to you on 14th??? OR????

Upgrade?

I do not quite understand how much I pay for upgrade to iPhone 4S. When I check to see if I'm elegible to upgrade on my iPhone, I get "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee." Also, when I used the upgrade eligible tool provided from att.com, it says that I qualify for the following iPhone pricing: iPhone 4S: 16GB- $199, 32GB- $299, 64GB- $399. So, I wanted to know, do I just pay the $18 upgrade fee or do I have to pay the fee along with the cost of the iPhone 4S that I am upgrading to?

Not much is the same except the outside. It’s a whole new phone on the inside, so they couldn’t just flip a switch and release it. The hardware AND software had to be developed first. There’s no sign that either the 4S or iOS 5 were ready in July, and plenty of evidence that they weren’t. Since the iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 were outselling every competitor anyway, why would they want to rush something half-finished out the door, Android-style?

you going talk about half-finished when 1/4 iPhone PR was about beta version of Siri.. which I may add was released to give something to iPhone 4S that differentiated it from iPhone 4. That maybe the only reason it was delayed. iOS 5 has been ready IMO. Siri beta obliviously isn't but they needed it.

Love all the negative votes when someone speaks the truth.

To all of you who keep saying "I'm going to just buy the Samsung Galaxy IIS..." stuff, please just go buy it and leave the forums. That way we don't have to hear your complaining anymore.

I've bought a phone at launch every year, and AT&T has always reset the clock to offer upgrade pricing. I haven't checked, but I'd expect nothing less, especially with two other networks options in the US.

I have, also. I pre-ordered the 4 last year but AT&T is currently telling me I am NOT eligible for an upgrade. So I would start expecting less.

Siri looks cool but I'm not about to pay the Beta Tax on it.

Why not? After all, it's now apparent that those of us who bought the original iPhone 4 were beta testers for the iPhone 4s. The antenna has been fixed, and undoubtedly the camera has been fixed too (no more blue or green splotch when taking photos in rooms with fluorescent lighting).

And i'm sure you'll expect (demand) to be eligible if the iPhone 5 is released next September too.

Since I'm on the East Coast, I guess I'll be staying up a bit longer that night.
Now I just have to make sure I want to get the white one this time around.

And this pre-order system will be a mess just like last year I presume? Four hours of reloading, the order kind of getting in but not really, the website crashing, etc...

Yeah, I was part of the problem with all the reloads and rushing the server, but still, will this be any different?

re original article

i'm ok with the 4s form factor and bump in specs

but larger retina display would have been killer

Interesting that Apple decided to retain the name Siri instead of renaming it something like Voice Control.

I think I will pass.

Interesting I upgraded from 3G last October and the tools says I am eligible again as the account owner. I upgraded my wife at the same time and she has to wait until April as a member of the family plan. I upgraded to 4 because my 3G was soooooo slow and the screen is amazing on the 4. 4S may be faster but it has never felt like my iPhone 4 was slow.

I am going to hang on till next year when my AT&T contract will be up. I really need to get off this crap service. I had Sprint before when I had my old Treo and was very happy. I only left for the iPhone. Maybe it is time to go back. Saying that I am interested that their home page does not even mention that they got iPhone even though the Apple website says it is available on Sprint.
