iPhone 4s - Worth it?

Omg I'm new to this forum and the people here seem tired and dejected and weary. Too bad I'm interested in iPhone topics because the people suck. Never a straight answer.

Anyway. Quite simply. THIS PHONE ROCKS. I enjoy the benefits of my new 4S over my previous 4 every day. (and I did and do regard the 4 as a good phone )

I say buy it and perhaps sell or give the 4.
based on your enthusiam for the 4S over the 4, it sounds like it's now pleasuring you in other ways

What can I say, this is the best iPhone I've had. These people that say that if you have the 4 then the 4S is not worth it, I don't get it.

Why not worth it?

If you can sell or "give" the 4 and it makes the cost of the 4S virtually zero, then it makes no sense to stick with the 4. All features aside, you get a brand-new phone, no scratches, new battery, perfect switches, I mean it makes no sense if it's essentially free. But I am sure that the post right after this one will say "if you have the 3GS then upgrade, otherwise no".

Ugh

I hate to be this person, but why should we convince you? Plus, there are a ton of threads identical to this. I just can't stand when people come to a forum to ask others convince them to do/buy something

internet would extinct if all people in the internet has your attitude.

To me the speed improvement makes it a whole new experience. It's definitely worth it in my opinion.

YEP

The speed and the smoothness is huge..bigger than i expected. Siri is a big plus for me and i do use it alot too. The Gaming quailty is amazing but does kill battery life...but for me i wouldn't go back to the 4...well worth upgrading.

Best phone i've ever had. It is worth it.

Question

Most people under this new topic agree with the fact the 4S is worth purchasing, and most say it is a fantastic device. My question is if so many are complaining about battery life, which is now a known issue which Apple are trying to sort out with a software update, + many forums on the internal speaker (buzz) issue, why is everyone reccomending it but complaining at the same time. I'm in the same vote as this guy i'm looking to purchase one at christmas, but i have my doubts due to these problems. Can people just give a honest answer, is it great, or is it a piece of *****? If it's great, do you have the so called problems?

I've had no problems with battery life my first 3 usage stats

7 hours usage
1 day in standby

6 hours usage
20 hours in standby

and currently

3 hours, 25 minutes
22 hours, 45 minutes standby

so generally it's been very good. Apple have admitted it software than the 4s. Some have been very unlucky battery wise, some have been lucky to avoid it.

There are only three* differences between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S:

- Processor (A4 vs A5)
- Siri
- Camera (5MP@720p vs 8MP@1080p)

It's up to you whether those differences warrant the cost of an upgrade.

*If you're referring to the Verizon iPhone 4S, a fourth difference is that you are able to use the GSM portion during travel outside the USA

Also the re-worked antenna config if you are coming from the GSM version and the capacity upgrade if you need the extra space.

Coming from a 3Gs it's hard for me to not recommend the 4s. I have had no battery problems and the phone has been a pleasure to use. Definitely much faster than the phone I had, plus the screen looks so much better. I still mainly use a phone as a phone and calendar with a few games thrown in here and there. It' s not my main device for all entertainment. But this is my fourth iPhone and they work for me. My wife just switched over to the 4s from a Blackberry and she loves it. She's also had no major problems with her phone so it's not like everyone is having all these problems. Take a chance and grab one.

The iPhone 4S fits Apples new business model of releasing a problem phone and enlisting the users to help sort out the problems. First launched in 2010 this new model has it's drawbacks. Last year I was forced to return several defective iPhone 4 models. So far this year I'm on my third BatteryGate return.

I can only surmise that Apple has increased it's profit by cutting back on testing & quality control. They know their customers will tolerate almost anything to own an iPhone. So far Apples right.

Sadly however it prevents me from endorsing the phone as I used to enjoy doing.

I don't think it signals any sort of cut back in QC. The demand is just so great for the phone that to do an intense level of QC on it would 1.) cost a ton and 2.) cause all kinds of supply problems.

This type is stuff just happens when a company gets to be the size Apple is and the demand for their products is at the level that we see for the iPhone. To their credit....they have always been very solid on the customer service side and have often gone above and beyond to satisfy any complaints customers have had about their devices.

Of course its the best phone you ever had. They could have put in a better home button and it would be better than an ipnone 4. But is it worth the expense and another 2 year contract if you already have an iPhone 4? Not for a lot of people (me included).

This discussion seems to pop up in multitudes on every forum and tech site. The answer just comes down to 2 things. 1. How much will it cost and 2. how much you want it. For me, it's a simple choice. I have a corporate plan on AT&T which allows an upgrade pretty much every year and I just sell my old 32 gig iphone on Gazelle with no hassles for anywhere between $160 and $200 dollars which means it costs me basically $150 to have the newest and latest, ...........and no convincing is necessary if you really want it.

Have you ever tried Craigslist to dump your used iPhones? I was able to sell my iP4 same day, $375 locally (Black/32gig). I was surprised...I actually was contacted by the buyer within ten minutes of posting it! I'm still blown away that people buy them at the price they do. Made my upgrade to the 4s AND 64gigs cost $24! I'm happy with AT&T where I am (we don't have Verizon or Sprint in Alaska)...so the "Two Year" contract is irrelevant. I will always need a cell phone.

Only if you like, it's more important that anything. But i'd rather like iPhone 4 more that iPhone 4s.

Huh?

I don't think this is true at all. In fact, folks like you that continuously exchange phones because you are convinced there's some sort of anomaly... it's you that I would question, Not the Company. I've had iPhones in our family since day one. Every new model (I own a company as well, so I'm always eligible for the upgrade when they pop)...and the iPhone 4, I bought 8 eight of them for employees, my wife and son. None have been returned. None have issues. All still going perfectly strong! My 4s, same thing. No significant difference in battery performance between it and my 4. Maybe I'm lucky (I've only upgraded mine, not my employees...and my wife doesn't want to lose all her texts so she's holding tight:)), but when I see these claims that people are returning them multiple times...I'm not a believer. Sorry.

As far as "Is it worth it?"...YEP! No question. If you're eligible for the update. I wouldn't hustle out to spend $800 on a new, unsubsidized phone...but if you can make a bit back on your iP4, you're eligible for the upgrade, by all means, pull the trigger! It's an incredible phone. Much more "fluid", the camera is awesome (a true P&S replacement), Siri is great!!! And I, like others, have noticed better connection rates, speedier downloads, and...to my surprise, a bit better "clarity" in conversations with people. Not sure if that's in my head, but it sounds better to me while conversing...both in the headphone section of the phone (holding up to ear), and the external speaker.

Love it! Best iPhone yet. Only the outside resembles the iP4. The guts, they've been re-done...and re-done Well IMVHO.

YMMV as always

I got my iPhone 4 last January and love it. I was thinking of upgrading but I think I'll just wait until the next generation comes out. The current specs v the old phone are not big enough to upgrade for me.

I changed from the IP4 to 4S and which i had not, mot worth the extra cost for general use.
It a big gamer or photo user maybe, also Siri differs depending on what country your from , it's rubbish in the UK.

I really like the camera on the 4S and I'm one of those who takes a lot of pictures with my phone. IME, Siri works very well at times and other times its useless. Most of the time I use Siri is when I want to dictate a text while driving. Seems to do that pretty darn well and that alone makes it worthwhile to me.

I've been stalling for ages to upgrade to a smartphone as I was perfectly happy with my Motorola KRZR K1 and iPod Touch 4. Decided to make the jump last week to an iPhone 4.

Had a play on my work colleague's 4S and TBH, Siri to me is a pure gimmick and 8mp camera was not enough to convince me that it's worth the extra over the 4. Nothing has changed my opinion a few days on with the iPhone 4 8GB - it's an excellent phone and it's a million times better than my Motorola so I'm happy.

The plan is when the 5 or 5S makes an appearance, if there's enough of a marked difference like a bigger retina display, NFC and other killer features then I may go for the latest upgrade.

Until then, I don't give a %%%% about people waxing lyrical about how great their 4S is over the 4. It's pretty much the same phone give and take a slightly faster processor and small details.

i only read the thread starter and based on that i am replying.

i would say no. its not worth it. and i am iphone 4s owner.

first of all. there is no single application that would work on 4s and not work on 4. aside from one game which is Infinity blade 2. and i kinda believe its more of a marketing reason but whatever.

however as an IOS thing . it wont matter. u wont notice any difference in speed or web scrolling or anything. its just not worth it. however if you upgrade, u wont get jailbreak on ur iphone. " since nothing out now. and even though hackers said they already hacked it, i think they are full of lies otherwise they woulda released it. "

so no. dont do it. wait for the iphone 6, as i dont think 4s will last for long time. if anything, i think its an easy cash money for apple while they are preparing for the next big thing. i am very sure this phone wont complete the 1 year life cycle.

So I've had my iPhone 4 for about seven months and don't get me wrong, it's a great phone, but the 4s would seem so nice for Christmas. Is the 4s worth it? Convince me :D

Wait for the iPhone 5. Seems the iPhone 5 is going to have a 4" display :)

Let's just say I'm not in business for convincing people.

You want some 4s review? Google is your friend. I came from iPod Touch, so getting an iPhone 4s was no brainer for me, easy and obvious. If you already have iPhone 4, I dont see any point of upgrading unless it's cheap.

So .. Convinced or not .. I dont really care.
