Not that I'm trying to deflect the issue here, but I will say that in my personal experience, I am done with dock connectors in the car.

Last year I bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and was very excited about the iPod connection kit that they offered. The problem is that upon plugging it in, music starts automatically playing and can only be controlled by the stereo interface of the car, which makes navigating songs/artists/playlists basically impossible. This is clearly an issue with the interface and approach that Hyundai has selected.

As a result, I am going to go back to using a simple 3.5" male-to-male cable. Sure, the device won't charge, but at least I'll have control over my music in an interface that makes sense.

Edit: Bluetooth doesn't work well either. Siri really confuses it.

Long-story-short, Apple and the auto manufacturers are equally to blame in some cases.

Blue tooth and Siri are working perfectly fine in my car

Bluetooth and direct connection I have in my 2012 jeep Cherokee works as well as normal calls. Siri however doesn't work at all. I have to turn Bluetooth off on the phone to use Siri. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m) iPhone 5 now works with Hyundai cable

I received the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m), my iPhone 5 now works perfectly with my Hyundai factory cable. I can see the song information on the radio, control the iPhone.
Bonus the short factory cable is now long enough to use.

I have a toyota rav4 and with my previous IP4S i used a cable I got from radioshack which would go in the middle console you plug that it to charge the phone and the other end had a 30pin that would gointo the phone and I coudl lsietn to music by chnaging the source to Aux/ something.

Now how do I come aroudn with the new cable. I don't have bluetooth or a usb plug in the car.

Finally found an adapter in stock, took it to the parking lot, doesn't work with my 2012 Honda Accord with USB port. Walked back in the store and returned it. I guess I'm back to the headphone jack for audio.

A brief update on three additional tests of the adapter:

1) 2012 Lexus RX350 with Nav - All works perfectly with either lightening cable or adapter

2) 2013 Lexus RX350 with Nav - Ditto including album art feature

3) 2005 Tahoe with Nav and iSimple gateway - Worked exactly one time with the adapter with the iSimple in 'iPod' mode. This included full screen functions and steering wheel controls. However, now it just makes a popping noise and says 'No iPod Connected'. Interestingly the iSimple continues to play music from the iP5 via the adapter on the 'Aux1' setting.

2012 Honda Fit here, and the iPhone 5 w/lighting USB cable worked fine with the car's built-in USB docking/iPod interface. If anything, the song/playlist changes seemed a little quicker.

For those who are interested in the Parrot installed system, it certainly acts odd with the iPhone 5. I can't use the adapter because I have an Otterbox case. The adapter won't fit. That was a wasted purchase.

The Bluetooth aspect is where things get odd. Overall, it works okay in a general sense. The weirdness happens with the data supplied by the phone and displayed by the Parrot. Sometimes, albeit quite rarely, I actually get the display showing the Artist, Song, time, etc. That's very rarely.

More often, the Parrot thinks its in a phone call when the music or podcasts are playing. If I press pause, it acts like a mute for a phone call. The music/podcasts continues, just muted.

Unless you happen to be in one of the few times that the song info is available, you get track controls. Otherwise, everything needs to be controlled from the iPhone itself. Likewise, the Parrot iPod menu controls don't work either (select playlist, artist, genre, etc.)

One of these days I'm gong to have to get the case back off the phone and try the adapter to see what happens.

I have a 2012 Elanta and the USB does not work. I am impatiently waiting for the adapter so I can get my charging functionality back. I believe in the Sonata it does work though. I'd give it a try.

So if you plug in your iPhone 5 directly with the USB to Lightning cable it doesn't do anything? I have a 2012 Elantra and was hoping to just use that cable to charge/play through the iPod interface.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze

iPhone 5 has no issues connecting to interface with the Lightning Cable. Bluetooth syncs up as intended.

iPhone 5 does not work in the 2012 Toyota Camry. I have even tried it with the adapter. It makes all of the "clicking" sounds when you tap a button, but it will not play music or integrate with the Entune system. Bluetooth works fine, but that doesn't work for Entune. Anybody have this issue with their Toyotas?

I said it elsewhere, and I'll add it here:

Works fine with the USA SPEC PA15-TOY in my Toyota BUT only if plugged in a certain direction. It actually needed to be plugged in backwards (with the label of the cable and the adapter facing the back of the iPhone) before it worked. Once I did that, it worked perfectly. If I plugged it in facing front, it charges, but doesn't show as connected to the stereo, nor does it play.

If you have any accessory that doesn't work, try it the other way.

Thanks for the advice Ntombi, I will try that and see if it works!

I have a 2010 Civic, its just a standard USB connection. Really hope this works without causing difficulty.

If you mean a USB plug that you used to plug your 30 pin cable directly into I don't think you'll even need an adapter. I had a Kenwood head unit (after market) in my car that had iPod control through a USB port in the unit itself. I'd plug the 30-pin into my iPhone 4S and the USB end into the stereo and it would play my music and allow me to control the iPhone using the stereo controls.

When I got my iPhone 5, I plugged the lighting end of the cable into my iPhone 5 and the USB end directly into the head unit (no adapter) and it worked just the same as it did with my iPhone 4S and the 30-pin cable.

The moment a lot of you have been waiting for.

Kia Sportage 2012 - Confirmed Fully Functioning w/ USB-Analog Factory Cable

All in dash/steering wheel controls work. Charges flawlessly. Pandora played through as well using the USB/Analog cable.

30 pin adapter works perfectly with my Mercedes OEM iPod/iPhone kit. Steering wheel controls and in dash track/album/playlist data display work just as they did with my 4 and 4S.
Phone calls and Siri work through the bluetooth system just as before.

Very happy! :D

Thought I would revive this thread. Big changes in iOS 6.1! Upgraded my iPhone then plugged my iPhone 5 into my car (Ford Focus Microsoft Sync) and now it can access all songs in the cloud and you can browse ALL music on the phone itself AND on the car display. Nice!
