Well yeah. Wonder what they're waiting for. I suspect Jobs' departure put a wrinkle in things.

Hmm, interesting theory. It is puzzling why it's taken them all the way to October instead of June, in any case. Especially if the phone isn't LTE, after all.

I don't know about the departure per se, but I could see Jobs' worsening condition slowing things down if he lacked the energy to stay on top of everything.

Also, possibly they were just having too many technical difficulties getting an LTE phone working well, so they had to fall back on a Plan B phone and needed time to get the Plan B phone working.

Translation)

"just weeks away..." => "1~3 weeks"
"Apple employee who asked not to be named" => "his friend"
"potentially authentic" => "It seemed authentic, but he could not gurantee it."
"The Apple engineer also said.." => "His friend was an Apple engineer."
"8 megapixel, A5 processor." => "Everybody know it".

2) China still has to install iOS5. There's a least a week right there. Then and I'm no shipping expert, but based on the volume and weight of the shippments, wouldn't it have to come to the states via cargo ship? Assuming that's how it happens, ships would come into port of Los Angeles and then have to trucked all over country.
I disagree with you about the shipping part. Last year when I ordered my iPhone 4, it came straight from Shenzhen, along with the iPad. I don't think any distribution into the the states prior to launch is necessary. FedEx and UPS love iPhone launches. :)

pb, that's encouraging and I'm glad I'm wrong.

I'm stuck on a moto droid original that gets hot as the sun when it's charging, it reboots 5 times a day and eats batteries like candy. I've gotten brand new oem batteries mult. times and still it sucks on battery life. I found and was watching a live stream of WWDC while it was up watching, waiting for the iPhone and nothing came, then they said 9/7, 9/7 came and nothing, now it's just weeks. I've been eligible for an upgrade since April, patiently waiting knowing it's lurking just an invite away...I'll wait...

the iphone 7 is also weeks away..... its prolly like 100 weeks away.... but thats still weeks,

New York times you better feel pretty proud of yourself when the iphone 5 is announced

Clearly you didn't understand what i was saying.

I was speaking at a hardware point of view. I.e, bigger screen, better ergonomic design etc.

Clearly, I did understand. Use a Samsung phone for a month and you would be thrilled to get your iPhone back. Sounds like you have a size complex:D

The iPhone 5 will have a horizontally elongated home button, which will act as a button as well as the "slide to unlock" place. You'll be able to slide to unlock directly from sleep mode without having to press a button first.

"according to an Apple employee who asked not to be named because he was not allowed to speak publicly for the company."

Or rather, who asked not to be named because he'd be fired the next day...

If by October 6th, there is no OFFICIAL news on an iPhone 5, I'm buying an android. I'm done, I quit, I have been able to get a subsidized upgrade from AT&T SINCE FEBRUARY, but no, I waited. Then I waited some more, and more and more.

I don't want to wait anymore. My phone is Junk, and I'm moving ahead with or without a stupid iPhone.

To each his own. You don't sound happy with your decision though.

I got sick of the delays, expecially because I had a huge discount for a phone to spend in September, so I got a Galaxy S2. Couldn't be happier.

Good for you. Just hope you are telling us and not yourself. It seems if you have your new phone already you could start ignoring these asinine rumors.

If by Oct 6th, There's no announcement, I'm getting the iPhone 4. Then with my luck, Oct. 7th Apple will send out invited.
Just the way it works :p

That seems like a great choice since as far as Apple is concerned the iPhone 4 is the current iPhone - everything else is just conjecture and if we delay our buying decisions because of rumors on unannounced products we've got nobody to complain to but ourselves. Keep in mind you may get a 30-day remorse period from the carrier.

Good thing the Galaxy SII on AT&T is 3 days away.

I didn't wait over a year and a half and all these ************ "rumors" to get the SAME. THING. I've been loo king at for over 4 years.

Love Apple, don't love being told what I want my hardware to be.

I'm guessing you are saying that you like having a choice of hardware for your mobile OS. There are drawbacks that come with that (fragmentation) but there are also drawbacks to having no choices for iOS hardware on a phone. Judge what is bet for you.

I'm don't have long before getting a Droid Bionic or something else. I want to wait but doubt my current phone is going to last another month.

Seems to me you would be putting yourself in a dated OS situation instead of a dated hardware situation with ICS due out next month on the Nexus Prime and the high probability of a Gingerbread phone NOT getting the ICS upgrade or getting it many months later.

I have an iPhone 4 and just recently won a Samsung Galaxy S II and all I can say is that the Sammy is way overhyped! The entire Android experience just left me with a headache. Thank god I didn't pay anything for it but I'm sure all the Sammy lovers that have invaded here will continue to exclaim its virtues blindly. Meanwhile, I'll look forward to the iPhone 5 and it's wonderful iOS. I can handle waiting for a few more weeks since my IPhone 4 is still working great.

And the iPhone 5 is going to blow us away. (or I'll eat my Galaxy S II!!!)

....ok, maybe I'll just lick it a couple of times. :)

If my iPhone 3GS was dying I would just switch back to my treo 680 for a few weeks before i would be willing to switch ecosystems. If I was going to switch I would be looking at Mango now that WebOS has an uncertain future.

I feel for you. Thr iPhone 4 is a great phone, but I'm waiting too with my 3GS. The Moto Droid can be a bit painful. My bro-in-Law's favorite mod for Moto Droid let's him manually down-clock the processor to conserve battery. If my phone down-clocks the processor to conserve battery then I never want to know about it - it should just happen.

But then some of us live in countries where NFC payments are accepted everywhere. And I do mean EVERYWHERE: ticket gates at train stations, convenience stores, vending machines, buses, bars and restaurants, coffee shops, electronics stores, etc. Having NFC on the iPhone would be incredibly useful, which is why other phone manufacturers have been offering it on their handsets for years.
Any word on iPhone 5 having a Geiger counter?

But ...

It's been weeks away for weeks away now.

But that is still weeks away. After that becomes longer than 52 though the tem years will usually be used. Because I still have 10 months, I meant 43 weeks left on my Sprint contract with my HTC 4.3" screened EVO 4g phone so I'm willing to weigh a few more weeks.

The same design as the current iPhone 4. If the design is the same and only the camera and processor has been updated, no thanks. Honestly, how do we even know for sure they are going to release the iPhone 5 in October? What is the possibility they announce an economically friendly iPhone 4S? Releasing such phone will increase sales while they work on the finishing touches to the 5. The iPhone 5 could possibly wait until June considering the iPhone 4 (and possibly 4S) is/will be selling at a great rate. I am afraid that this possible nightmare will become reality

What is with this STUPID headline PHOTO

Why do you use it? It is not real and should not be used. It cheapens the site when you use FAKE photos. Have journalistic pride, don't sell out.

Will be interesting to see what new innovations they have stolen from Android manufactures this time round.
