Just hope that mock up of Steve presenting the iPhone 5 becomes a reality.

I think Steve's health is the reason for the delay, finishing his chemo before he is ready to do the keynote

Weeks away????? Well that can only mean 1 thing it will be available on the day of the announcement. This is better marketing as Apple have generated the hype through its various leaked rumours. the whole world knows its coming so why agitate customers even more by announcing it then letting customers down by not shipping it immediately. If its happens then Apple will please a lot of people and Tim Cook will be a hero.
Obviously tht type of tactic will have been down to him and thats a good thing. I thinks its good that the bloke who was in charge before..erm? whats his name again? Oh yeah Steve jobbless thats it. i think its good hes gone and a new brush that sweeps clean isnt always a bad thing. SJ was too stubborn ir reckon TC will move Apple forward in the right direction starting with the iPhone 5:D

I don't get it. Everybody is complaining that Apple is responsible for the hype and the rumors.

Apple is notorious for it's secrecy and closed lip approach to information regarding upcoming products.

It's sites like CNET and MR that are the purveyors of hype and rumor. But that's MR's purpose - R = Rumors. If it is difficult to tolerate all the rumors - you're on the wrong forum. Go to the Apple Absolutely For Sure Facts Forum site. ;)

(OMG, I'm defending Apple. Help, I'm becoming LTD!!! :D :p)

I have an iPhone 4 and just recently won a Samsung Galaxy S II and all I can say is that the Sammy is way overhyped! The entire Android experience just left me with a headache. Thank god I didn't pay anything for it but I'm sure all the Sammy lovers that have invaded here will continue to exclaim its virtues blindly. Meanwhile, I'll look forward to the iPhone 5 and it's wonderful iOS. I can handle waiting for a few more weeks since my IPhone 4 is still working great.

And the iPhone 5 is going to blow us away. (or I'll eat my Galaxy S II!!!)

....ok, maybe I'll just lick it a couple of times. :)

I don't understand this logic. A iPhone 4 with iOS5 would be better than any Samsung POS.

Yeah, no one can make a decent smartphone but apple.

Granted the iPhone is the BMW of smartphones, but that doesn't mean that every other car on the road is junk just because you own a BMW.

Luckily I'm not upgrading until next year but not looking forward to all the hype and waiting around as my contract ends in June 2012 and sounds likley the release window will be around the same time next year.

The joys of being an Apple nut :)

I own a BMW and every other car on the road is junk.:D

Lucky thing I'm not some yuppy, arsehole, auto snob! ;)

If by October 6th, there is no OFFICIAL news on an iPhone 5, I'm buying an android. I'm done, I quit, I have been able to get a subsidized upgrade from AT&T SINCE FEBRUARY, but no, I waited. Then I waited some more, and more and more.

I don't want to wait anymore. My phone is Junk, and I'm moving ahead with or without a stupid iPhone.
Same here pal. What's the point of waiting 16 months for just a speed bump or just waiting more and more? Android is not polished as iOS but if you have money you can buy it anytime.

I'd expect Phil Schiller to do the keynote, not jobs. Same for all future keynotes.

From what I've heard, just from techblogs so not exactly concrete, is he's not that good of a public speaker.

But it could be good for the confidence of the people who wonder about Steve's step down on the board. Not a big deal to me but some people may like to see him show us the first great product that he'll be in charge of from here on out.

You... What? You've been eligible for an upgrade for 7 months? 7 MONTHS?!

You're in deep **** man. Your life is miserable. Truly horrible.

Unless he truly is at death's door I would expect Steve to do at least some of the keynote, at the very least the introduction before handing over to Phil and co to give more details.

I'm thinking he won't show up. He's not the CEO now, and he's been doing less and less on the keynotes in the past. My suspicion is that they want a clean cutover and it will be all Tim's show.
