Okay, I'm not taking credit for this because I read this on one of the threads last night. Someone had mentioned to turn off the inbuilt iOS Facebook account in Settings. I did this last night and charged the phone all night long. Took it off the charger and used it for 15 minutes. Happy to report that in the 15 minutes of use the battery did not drop by a single percentage point.

I will continue testing this all day today and report back. If anyone else is willing to try please give it a shot.
.

I'll try this! Yesterday I had 5% left with 4.5 hours of usage and 10 hours standby. Only apps I was using were tweetbot, facebook, instagram.

I was getting what I considered to be pretty decent battery life (average of 7.5 hours usage, 15.5 hours standby) until I went on a trip this last weekend. I was staying in a cabin that was kind of out in the middle of nowhere, and I noticed I lost my charge a little faster at that time due to poor reception, which I totally expected. Nothing out of the ordinary. But since I've been back my battery life has not gone back to what it used to be. It's noticeably worse. I'm getting at least about an hour and a half less out of one full charge. I'm basically experiencing the same battery life that I did while I was on my trip with crappy reception everywhere.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me? I did a reset on my settings thinking that maybe I had changed something while on vacation and it was messing with the battery but it didn't help at all; in fact it only seemed to get a little worse. Would a full phone reset (setting up as a new phone) do me any good? I came from an Android to this phone so I didn't do a restore when this phone was set up. I do have about 10 apps downloaded.

ETA: I just realized that I had gmail and iCloud set to push, so I switched them both back to manual like I had before. That still doesn't explain why my battery life was worse after my trip (before I reset my settings) but I'm hoping that maybe with a couple full charge cycles it will go back to normal.

I'm consistently getting 2 bars, LTE signal, and I cannot kill my battery this way. I calibrated it 3 days in a row and with heavy usage it won't die before bed unless I try. BUT, if I get in an area where it drops down to Edge, it drops about 10% per half hour if I use it.

My battery life is no joke..

Damn I love this phone. This is standard for me, I'm just about to plug it in now.

For the last 2 days my Usage stats haven't been showing up. Has anyone else had this issue? I've tried hard reboots and draining the battery to zero. I've charged it to 100% twice and the stats still don't restart.

It's annoying me.

Any ideas?

I've been getting great battery life. I think the issue is related to restore vs. new. One other thread above me showed the before/after of an initial restore, then wiping and setting up new.

It is a hassle, because you need to then add apps manually, etc. But seems worth the extra effort if you avoid the battery issues; IMO.

I restored from new, and the battery life still sucks.

It's called false advertising.

Has anyone gotten a replacement iPhone 5 with better battery life?

I took mine in, they did a diagnostic which said my battery was normal. The genius suggested a restore as new, which I did, he suggested powering off every morning, which I did, I downloaded an app that monitors processor usage which didn't show anything abnormal. Nothing has helped. My battery can drop 15% in a matter of minutes. Apple really needs to release an iOS update to address this issue. I suspect it has to do with LTE/4G switching.

45 mins of Dark Knight game
2 hours Safari
1 hour Words with friends
2 hours Facebook and Twitter
2 hours of Music
1/2 hour of App Store

2 hours wifi, rest of the day mainly 3G (couple of dead zones on train into work)

I hate to say this I don't know whats different and I'm terrified that I will do something and the battery will suddenly go back to the bad old days...

But I was getting 8 hours max with my iphone 4s now I'm getting an average of 14 hours and loving it I don't even bother plugging it in at work now!!!!!

"Decent" is a relative term but personally I think that's solid battery life. Not FANTASTIC, but very solid IMO.

Thanks man, so no need to think about a replacement or a genius appointment?
Will try another full cycle and play around with settings to see what i can get out of it.

One thing ive noticed is Words for friends has a serious drain effect :(

Hi all,
iPhone 5 picked up at midday today in UK.
Have set the phone up with email accounts etc and charged to 100%.
However now after 2 hrs of near constant use on safari, FB, twitter and emails I'm at 55%.
Does that sound about right? The battery is draining fast.

That sounds about right. You are using the phone constantly. It's gonna drain. Check your settings and make sure that all the stuff you don't need is turned off.

For the majority of people, it seems like 4-5 hours of usage is going to be the norm for battery life, even though Apple has stated 8 hours of usage should be expected.

I live in an area with spotty AT&T LTE coverage, so it would make sense that the phone constantly hunting/switching from 4G to LTE would drain the battery. However, even with the LTE switched off, i'm still not getting 8 hours of usage, more like 5-6 max.

The only thing i can think of for those getting 8 hours on a battery, in an LTE zone, is that the LTE signal must be pretty strong.

I've already exchanged the phone once, and although the new one was a bit better initially, it doesnt seem to be vastly improved.

At this point, it doesnt appear that there's a fix, unless Apple decides to release some sort of patch. But that would be wishful thinking...

That's not bad if it was mostly on 3G

When you set up your iPhone, you have the option of restoring from a backup or setting up as a new phone. Select as a new phone. I don't think it helps, frankly.

Long story short..my battery life was horrible when I first received my phone on 9/21.. about 4 hours with LTE off and 50% brightness and light usage. I went to Apple and got a replacement. I set it up as a new phone (not from backup), immediately let the battery die completely and charged it over night. I went all out the next day and left LTE on, 50% brightness and lots of browsing and iHeartRadio. The picture was the result.

Basically..if you feel your battery is dying WAY too fast, just take it to Apple and get a replacement before the initial 30 days. Your phone battery may be faulty.

EDIT:
-3 email accounts all on push
-No Bluetooth but GPS usage for about an hour via Waze
-Location Services on

There is absolutely no reason to seek a replacement with that battery life. Only way to improve it would be to mess with the settings. Your hardware is fine.

I dont have the damn receipt for the Phone It was purchased brand new from someone who added a line under AT&T I was the first person to activate the phone , Can I still swap it for a replacement ? I have all the original accessories and the box or am I not eligible ?

Just bring it to any Apple Store and all they do is track your serial number...no need for receipt, nor do you need to bring accessories. Just bring the phone.
