september units are good units, dont return it

Too early to tell that much. My first unit with pictures in this thread was highly flawed and the same week as my replacement which is great.

Flawed:

Screen size: 4 inch
Screen resolution: 1136x640 pixels
Colour: Black
Capacity: 16GB
Factory: F2 Please tell us where this machine is manufactured.

I know it's still early on but my black 32GB iPhone is doing well. My naked phone has been in and out of my pocket many times and I set it down on a wooden desk while at my computer. Nothing on the back or sides to note, at least for now.

While I really like the one I have, sometimes I second guess myself and wonder if I should get the white one. Is it just a matter of time or did I luck out? There's still 28 days for me to decide. I certainly don't want to give up the phone as it is now.

My phone info....

Production week: 36 (September)
Color: Black
Capacity: 32GB
Factory: F2

The site doesn't know where F2 is because next to the info it says "please tell us where this machine was manufactured".

That's because some of the forum members gave him the details of our phones, the specs, and the serial numbers so he could work it all out.

You can tell which factory made it by looking at your serial number , he probably hasn't set up location on where they are. But it is correct as far as I know. I will try to email him and ask him to find out, it'd be interesting to see where they were made.

On the black model issue, if it's perfect, keep it for 2 more week. If there's ANY chipping from just careful use, I would get the white. It's too soon imo, to exchange it, as you will never know!

I hope your phone stays flawless!

Welp, one of mine shipped yesterday and is a week 38. Hopefully, that week and model proves to be scuff, dent, nick, scratch free upon arrival.

Everyone?

Or just everyone who is not a scientist, engineer, or machinist... all of whom know that ANODIZED finishes are a way of making metal surfaces such as aluminum much harder and more wear resistant.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing

Quoting from your link: "Anodized aluminium surfaces are harder than aluminium but have low to moderate wear resistance, although this can be improved with thickness and sealing."

So maybe it is "much harder and more wear resistant" compared to non-anodized aluminium, but aluminium itself is very soft to begin with, and even when anodized it still is not all that tough compared to other materials. There is a reason you will not find much aluminium in jewelry, fine watches and so on - these items are supposed to look good despite the unavoidable little collisions and scrapings they will have to endure when worn.

I have plenty of stuff made from anodized aluminium, and it is easily scratched, in particular along edges. On tools, keys, flashlights it does not matter, who cares what they look like as long as they work. On items where looks are important, there I could see it becoming a problem. Usually their design avoids edges, though, so scratches are not so prevalent. Combining hard edges with anodized aluminum on an item intended for every-day-carry seems like a recipe for scuffing.

There are chemicals available for the purpose of blackening aluminium, could that be an easy fix?

Just noticed a small blemish on the side of mine just above one of the ribbons;

Probably not going to get it replaced as I can imagine me ending up with one thats in worse condition.

My brothers tell me I'm being ridiculous considering going to the Apple Store in hopes of an exchange. What do you guys think?

Did u steal my phone ???? That is the EXACT place my little scratch is. It wasn't an out of the box scratch got it shortly after using my phone.

Funny, first thing I do to a new device is putting a scratch on it.. So the first incidental scratch wont hurt that much....

Now I can buy one with it being already there

Thank you Apple for saving me a minute to scratch it :) Great update!

Judging from the pages and pages of pictures, I seem to have got the worst of a very bad bunch :(

Thanks! I'm keeping mine and letting time and usage tell what I should do. No need to mess with a good thing. :)

I'd be nice to figure out where F2 is...for the sake of curiosity.

Update on my scratched iPhone:

It's shipped already, should receive it within the next day or two. Pretty quick service.

It's a week 36, so hopefully it's better, than the week 35.

Just seen this on Twitter:

Not only is this a scuff, but it's rusted as well! (So says the poster. Seems that way by looking at it anyway)

Grim stuff.

That sorta looks like glue with a skin impression. U try wiping it? Some folks said they discovered that it was super sticky glue or adhesive.

I wish I had that. Touch it up with a sharpie, and you'll never see it :)

I have a little wear around the seams, which I could have accepted, but the deep scratch is just too much.

In case anyone was still clueless after 100 pages of this thread here is a few shots of my original black one, and my white replacement.

Mine was flawless too. Until a bit of the chamfer broke off as I was gently wiping what I though was something sticky off. It's the chamfer that's the main problem. Very poor design. Looks great. I think this will cause Apple major problems unless they can find a better way of sealing it.

Mines going back. I'll stick to my GS3 and my 4S.
