I think you have the titles mixed up.

A large amount of the damaged ones have been C3 and weeks 33 and 35.

No I don't, you can check if you like, I have copied and pasted as the thread has been progressing. Not from the beginning of the thread of course, but since I suggested this method.

People have claimed they are in the store opening up 5-10 brand new phones until they get one that is to their satisfaction. My question is:

What then becomes of all of those opened phones?

Surely Apple is not turning around and selling them as new.

My guess is they'll send them back, disassemble and re-house.

The interiors will still be in good working order and essentially of some value.

They'd then offer them as refurbishment devices.

They might end up as refurbs.

The way I see it is, if they bring out a phone that has been opened you can be sure that it's a phone they opened for a previous customer and they rejected it because of a small scuff.
Remember that not everyone will inspect their phone like we do, most will probably be glad they got one.

Mine is good news to be honest, i had received my iPhone 5 on Friday and found a scratch near the lock button, i called Apple in the evening that same day and the lady apologiesd for the poor quality check, she said she will send out a replacement, today i checked up when i would receive the phone and its on the 25th of September! That is a quick shipment date seeing as i phoned in the evening. So i would have my old one for a bit as well when i get my new iPhone, till the courier rings me and arranges to pick up my old iPhone, so i'm all good, going to be a bit cheeky and not give the headphones and lightening cable with my damaged iPhone 5 haha.

I'm struggling to see the point of it then, as it produces inaccurate results.

I have a damaged black 32GB. It's a week 36 Factory DN. I have a small nick in the top. My wife and mom have the same week 36 factory DN and they are flawless. I guess it's hit and miss. I'm not sure if I should take it back or just live with it. It just bugs me because it is new.

The replacement unit will not come with the accessories. Just the phone.

Just an FYI.

I think the main thing to take away from this is that;

A) There have been damaged (and flawless) phones reported here from all production weeks.

B) There have been damaged (and flawless) phones reported here from all factories.

It's clear that it's not a machine in a single factory that has had some temporary problems. It's a bigger problem than that. There is something wrong with the production in all their factories. Hopefully they can figure this out pretty soon to ensure that no more phones come scuffed out of the box.

Of course, the main cause of the problem is that the chamfer is pretty weak judging by all reports and videos on youtube. It's easy to damage the chamfer and that is unlikely to change at least until the next iPhone release... The edges are likely to get scuffed up pretty quickly through normal use unless you are using a case. At least we can be "happy" that the back side and the glass appear to be quite durable...

I bought 3 black 16Gb phones in total, 2 from Apple and 1 from Koodo. All the phones were sealed in their boxes. The first Koodo phone had some paint worn off the front bezel edge and Koodo replaced it. The second had 2 significant dents in the rear casing, and the SIM tray didn't sit flush with the body, and they replaced that too. The third has a small chip in the glass but my daughter was so fed up that she decided it was the best of a bad bunch and to keep it. Of the two Apple direct phones, one is flawless (mine) and the other has a small chip and paint missing on the rear bezel edge (my wife's). I'm looking forward to see what (if anything) Apple has to say on the matter?

Here's what the chip on my wife's phone looks like. The chip in the glass on my daughter's is more subtle.
