The term "bricked" should be banned in this forum. I don't even recall the last time I knew of an iPhone that was TRULY bricked.

It actually happened to me when iOS 6 came out. I went to do a fresh restore (phone was jailbroken) before installing it and my phone became a paperweight. Restoring wouldn't work, couldn't dfu, brought it to Apple and they couldn't get it to come on or even show up on their computer.

They ended up swapping it out for a new one even though it was out of warranty though. Apple's customer service is probably my favorite thing about them.

This used to happen alot on my iPhone 5 32gb on 6.1.4. I'd pull it out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on,after messing with it for a few mins it would turn on like nothing happened. It happened very sporadically, but eventually I switched out the phone and have yet to run into the issue.

I guess there is a first time for everything and this is it.

You don't know that. Even the ones that have been exchanged by Apple have probably been able to be recovered, people just didn't know how to do it properly.

I experienced the same issue for some time. It's been a long while though so I don't recall the circumstances.

This really sucks. Does anybody have a suggestion, or is the only option I have left visiting the Apple store?

Yeah don't mention you installed iOS 7 as you agreed to take it as is and lose all support options

If they figure it out don't be a douche and lie but don't volunteer the info.

If you have a dev account they will see that and help you out. No need to hide anything. Besides as soon as they plug into it they will see what you were running.

Not true. When you sign up for a devo account and download the software they are very very clear it is beta, you are taking it as is and you will get no support. You accept this.

Which is part of why they recommend not using your main devices for testing.

Of course I don't know what. I was just kidding.

Some Solutions?

Hi marce43,

Hi have the same problem... found you a solution?

I not yet!

thks

A few days ago I installed the beta version of iOS7 on my iPhone 5 (I have a developers account). Everything worked fine for a few days. This afternoon, however, I took the phone out of my pocket and discovered it was "dead". Just a little while before, battery was still at about 65%. At home, I connected it to my laptop and tried to restore it to iOS7 both in recovery mode and DFU mode. I keep getting errors: either 2001, 2006 or 3002. I looked these up, but seem to be pretty non-specific. I tired the standard solutions offered (different USB port, cable, different laptop, etc, etc), but I was not able to restore my phone.
This really sucks. Does anybody have a suggestion, or is the only option I have left visiting the Apple store?
Any suggestions on how to fix my phone ASAP are very much appreciated.
Thanks,

Marc

Problem solved

Hi,

I went to the Apple store. They were not happy about the iOS 7 but since I had a Developer Account they were willing to take a look. It turned out to be a hardware problem, not software. They gave me a new iPhone.

I guess you should take it to the Apple store.

Good luck!

Marc

Hi Marc and all,

I am a bit puzzled by all this.

I am a registered iOS dev. I have an iPhone 4 for development purposes only, which I opted to install iOS7 beta on. Obviously it was rubbish. But beta 3 seemed to be getting more stable, but processes on this device were definitely hitting the roof at all times.

Yesterday morning I had an extremely similar thing happened to this phone as to yours. It was black. I plugged into into the AC recharger and I got the Apple symbol, only for it to go black again. It kept repeating this cycle none-stop.

Upon unplugging it went black to stay so.

I connected it to my iMac - the cycle above repeated. However the phone did never show up in iTunes.

I decided to DFU.

iTunes successfully "saw" that phone in recovery state.
Yet the "regular" restore failed with error 2001.

I downloaded the disk image of iOS7 via the apple dev site.

Again DFU - this time OPTION+RESTORE click and selected the IPA.
Error 2001.

Today I went to a friends house with a different iMac, different USB cable.
The phone this time behaved differently upon plugging it in and gave me the "Connect To iTunes" image (which excited me).

However a restore failed again with error 2001. A second attempt with all USB peripherals unplugged gave me an error 2006, and a third attempt in succession and same setup gave me 2001 again.

My dev phone is bricked.

I am now almost 100% certain.

I searched for discussions on the web - yours came up along with a few others.

I am trying to work out if possibly the iOS7 beta has a bug, that keeps running processes at such a level that certain components might come under "stress".

My theory is that this could be indeed no hardware failure, but more like "fuse" or "kill-switch" that gets written into a file as to prevent the processor or other components from overheating.

Has anyone else had a similar issue thus far with any iOS device?

Thanks for reading and have a great day,

Frank

My iPhone 4s is running IOS 7 (I am a developer) and it sure gets hot. Fearing the worst, I always turn it off when it starts heating up. This usually happens when I am doing anything 'intensive' like watching a youtube clip... So potentially your theory could be right, but I believe the fault lies in the operating system.

All the best to those with bricked phones.

I have the exact same problem, when trying to restore with my macbook i get error 2001/2006 but when i try to restore on my windows pc i get error 21. This is the 3rd day with this happening and it is driving me insane!

Even if I have a developer account? I didn't download it illegaly or anything.
But thanks for the advice; I'll not volunteer that information!

Marc

Don't worry, 99% of apples staff is very nice and chill and even if you are not a developer and you tell them you had ios 7 they will help.

Same problem. Under iOS 7 beta 3, my phone would occasionally just blink out and reboot.

Yesterday I had it charging my car, then pulled it out and put it in my pocket. Next time I pulled it out, it was dead and unrecoverable. But about 45 minutes later, it inexplicably booted up after the Home and power buttons were fiddled with.

Today it blinked out again and appears to be permanently dead. No response to any button presses.

Exactly! But on the other side, that means that if you're unlucky to have one of those 1% who aren't nice at all, you're still in trouble. ;) Just hope they won't make a big deal of having the right of running iOS 7 or not.

It doesn't matter how nice they are. They aren't obligated or supposed to help you / fix your phone if you're running beta software. Technically, Apple does say to only run the betas on devices used for development purposes.

There are a lot of things apple staff isn't suppose to do that they do like they are only suppose to replace an iPhone under warranty if they can reproduce the issue, so many apple staff still allow perfectly fine iPhones to get replaced.

My iPhone 5 was "bricked," essentially, recently as well. I had iOS 7 beta 3 on my phone when it happened, but it's hard for me to tell if it was issues stemming from the beta's instability or if something was going on with the battery or flash memory on the phone itself. I've chronicled everything I did on this thread below. I ended up calling Apple and they sent me a new iPhone to my house 17 hours after getting off the phone with them (called at 4:30pm one day, came to my door at 10am the next day).

Ya'll sitting there saying ya'll phone is bricked. C'mon now... Stop the none sense and complaining. If you are a developer you have the bug report site and the contact number and hello it's still beta. What the hell do you expect. B E T A like I don't think BETA sinks in ya'll heads where your gonna have issues, bugs and stuff. Take it to Apple and quit complaining and why you have to hide about having iOS 7 install if your a developer. Some of y'all sound fishy to me.

First off, you shouldn't be dicking around online; you should be in remedial English class. Until you can spell elementary-school words like "you're", "where", and "quit", YOU'RE not going to be much more than a drag on society.

Second, you're clearly ignorant of the purpose of FORUMS. People are here to trade information, not "complain." This helps us determine if it's an isolated problem with OUR hardware, or whether it's a widespread problem with the OS.

I've already filed a report with Apple, and now I'm seeing if others have the same experience. Get it?

Dicking around.... Lmfao I laughed so hard at your corny remarks. Like I said if you claim you a developer and install iOS 7 expect bugs, issues and problems and I understand trading information and helping people but ya'll look suspect claiming to be devs but ohhh okay moving along now

um mine as far as i know is "bricked" please help

I have a standard iphone 4 from att, I installed ios 7 beta 6 soon after buying a udid registration ( was totally worth it til my phone wouldn't turn on) now it wont turn on at all, I have to plug it into the computer for the screen to even come on and when it does it has the ios 7 "look" to the cord aiming at the iTunes symbol, I have tried many different times with different cords and computers to restore my iphone, and It never works I even tried installing a old verison of ios 5 & 6 and none work, because you , see in the middle of the restore the iphone turns off then back on please help

It turns on, it isn't bricked. You won't be able to go back to iOS 5 because there is no longer a signed version (unless you have your shsh blobs which MAY make it possible). Put your phone in DFU mode and restore the current version of iOS 6.

unless I'm wrong, (and if you know I'm wrong, tell me), but hard reset and DFU mode are independent of the OS.. so unless you have busted components you should be able to kick into a restore at the least...
