who the heck holds their phone like that? not to mention if you block any devices antenna the signal will drop.

lots of people have had issues when the phone is laying flat and on wifi....that would cover the same part up.

Well, if touching a part of the sides of the phone causes it to malfunction in some way, then the most recent issue I would relate it to will most certainly be Antennagate, yes. I never suggested this is a fault with all iPhone 5s, I specifically asked if anyone else has noticed this. I have never experienced this on any of my other iPhones.

FatMax dont listen to them! I look forward to watching you sit on the sofa playing Real racing 2 and cursing about 'bridging'. You go sista! :D

Reading through all this someone mentioned touching above the volume buttons will reduce wifi ... Holding the iPhone in landscape mode and you just about have to hold/touch above the vibration switch where the line is ... When I do I will get a reduction in wifi signal. Try it for yourself.

From all your examples I notice that this may be a issue. Good to know.

However, mine seems more severe. You will see a bit later.

yeah, that is what I was trying to describe. Someone in the thread where I found that video mentioned the touching above volume toggle issue

I can replicate the wifi signal drop by touching right above the volume rocker. Is that normal?

I'll have to check when I get home, but the comment I read the person made it sound like every single iphone they tested did or, or close to every single one.

here is the exact quote from the user and link to the post. Don't know how valid it is

"i did a lot of testing with apple about this. on the three phones we tested all you have to do is put 1 finger right above the silent/vibrate button and it starts dropping signal then eventually drops 100%"

While holding my 5 in my left hand if my thumb touches that seam I lose one bar of WiFi. I'm not streaming airplay, but I'm guessing if you have a weak signal you could interrupt the transmission. My thumb normally doesn't rest there so its not an issue for me.

Try moving your thumb a little; I'm not saying "you're holding it wrong" as I returned my iPhone 4 for antenna issues. The difference for me is that on my 4 it was the bottom left seam where my palm rested, while on my 5 its the top seam that I normally don't touch. That and the fact that on the 4 it would kill my signal while on the 5 its one bar.

Still no video.

I'm still working, been at wok since this morning. Things are crazy now a days! :p

I will upload the instant I am home and have produced it.

UPDATE:

So here it is. Mind you, I don´t carry my phone around like that. Having said that, It doesnt take a genius to figure out that when I carry it when picking it up to go from A to B, this happens.

Well clearly the top band of the phone is part of the antenna system, otherwise there'd be no reason to isolate it from the side bands. As for the drop-out, I don't know. I can try and recreate it tonight though. I have a black iPhone5 and an AppleTV.

I'm pretty sure the top an the bottom of the band are for the cell antenna. The middle part is just...unibody.

OP didn't follow the rules of putting his MacRumors name somewhere in the video, so I'm still calling BS.

I can get it to drop a bar of wifi when touching/holding that spot but since wifi is pretty strong throughout my home it hasnt seemed to cause any issues . . . (yet) :D

Something happened with audio in the beginning, but if you listen carefully I actually say my username. I know you can do it! :D
