For anyone who has the Apple Dock, does the phone release easily?

I'm concerned that it's a matter of the dock being light enough that the phone would drag up the dock with it.

I haven't used a dock since the 3G iPod days so I honestly don't remember.

It is light but i can remove it with one hand by pulling while using the back on that hand to push down lightly. Easier than the belkin or 12south

Got my hi rise along with my 5s this morning and have to say it's an amazing dock. I'll do pics when I get home tonight if anyone is interested (sadly sans the red leather case, it won't be delivered til Friday)

I would definitely be interested in seeing pics. Thanks!

There's a kickstarter project for the EverDock. It's not quite as customizable as the 12 south hi-rise, but IMO, it has a much cleaner design.

  • Uses a special coating on its base that adheres to surfaces with suction so it will not shift around
  • It's being designed specifically for color coordination with the iPhone 5's Space Grey, Silver, and Gold finishes.
  • Securely clips the lightning bolt cable in place
  • Available in December. It had already nearly tripled its original funding goal.

Another vote for the HiRise, great versatile dock.

Does HiRise work with the apple leather case?

Yes. With many cases in fact.

It lifts up with the iPhone unless you hold it down, it's super lightweight.

I was set on getting the iPhone 5 dock made by Apple since I got the iPhone 4 version before but then I use a case so it doesn't fit a case and costs $29.99 plus tax and also is made of plastic.

So I got this instead (attached iPhone5 w/brown 5S case):

I just got my Hirise this morning and love it.

It did come with a scuffed area out of the box.

And the first time I removed the phone from the dock, the white plastic piece on the back rise popped off. A little crazy glue filxed that.

If you have an iMac or Thunderbolt display and are looking for a docking station that can fit most cases then the OCDock is an option, it uses a special paper thin cable that slides underneath the base of the display and looks wireless once installed.
Fits most aluminium and plastic bumpers and cases, the ultra rugged cases are a bit too big to fit. The original Apple leather case for the iPhone 5S fit's nicely into the OCDock.

You can also install it on something else besides the iMac/Thunderbolt display. For example the edge of your desk or the base of a reading lamp and so on..

I was interested in this but given a that piece popped off the first time you used it, to me, indicates either a faulty unit or poor workmanship. Any one else have a similar experience?

I would still recommend it. It looks nice and functions. I called the company and they were more than willing to replace the unit. But, my crazy glue fixed the issue, so didn't go that route.

The first time I saw that, my immediate reaction was "who the heck wants their phone smack dab in the middle of their computer?"
"I don't want" != "no one wants", regardless of topic. The world doesn't revolve around any one individual despite how your perspective may make it appear.

The only place I can get one in UK is amazon, seems a bit pricey at £35 considering they don't come with a cable lol.
