Looks good, case terrible

Thank you so much~ it will be here tomorrow!!!!

Too bad, I have it shipped to office...

EDIT: Dec 18th.

So this work GREAT with Elago Outfit case! It is heavier than the old generation, I could use the phone and the dock can stay still!!!!

I have placed another order for my wife to use it at home!

Finally, no more iPhone 5 dock searching! Most importantly, $25 is a reasonable price(from amazon with free shipping, no tax!) and I can use the lightning cable from Apple!

Will post some pictures soon.

EDIT: Dec 20th

Here are the photos.

Element Case

This is what I have been using.

1024x768_December 17, 201220121217-IMG_67427.jpg

It is an Element Case base for iPhone 4 (on right). I replaced the cable with an Apple Lightning cable.

image.jpg

The base allows for the old 30 pin(?) connector & cable to be replaced. I replaced it with the Apple Lightning cable.

image(1).jpg

I created a collar that holds the lightning cable in place with simple craft wire and needle-nose pliers. This setup has worked great. Element shared that they will be making new OEM collars for owners of the Element case, but I beat them to it using simple wire from the local hardware/hobby/craft store.

For one who really need a great base, go ahead and order an Element base for iPhone 4 and do the retrofit. It is a pretty easy DIY.

iZidock for iPhone 5 and lightning devices

www.izidock.com

This is a link to an interesting iP5 dock.
It uses the original apple lighting cable and the finish is crystal/glass matching the iP5. Also works for the other lightning compatible devices.
Also found on amazon and ebay

LOL... Please share some picture your iPhone case.

I have an invisible shield by zagg... So its thin and clear...

I just got the sinjimoru stand off amazon today and it is really nice... Sturdy, stylish, and simple... For $25 with free shipping, you cany beat it

I use the phone with the dock very often, if the phone stand straight... it is hard to use the toruchscreen. Moreover, with no back support... it doesn't sound good to me.

I had that back in iPhone 2G, and it turned yellow after few months, by the way, I don't smoke.

Yup, the stand is great~ no more googling iPhone 5 stand...

Wish I can do 1 hand unplug with this.

bought this one and received it Friday.

It works fine with a naked phone, but not with my bumper (lightning connecter is not long enough). Anyone else have the same issue? I'm wondering if I can modify it or if I need to get either a new case or different dock.

That's always been a major problem with a case on, especially aluminum. Is there a way of moving the connector up slightly? If you insert it yourself it should be easy enough to do. Can't tell from the pics,

Got my Podi-m dock from kickstarter. Overall, I like it.

The plastic piece I got to hold the cable wasn't cut perfectly, so I had to file it down to fit the wire. It also pretty much holds the iphone straight up. Seems like this could be remedied with a redesigned plastic holder.

Besides the minor annoyances above, I like:

The wood looks great. It's an actual piece of wood, not a laminate and it's probably about a centimeter thick.

The thing is heavy, so it doesn't move or get picked up when you take the phone out.

It uses your lightning cable, and you can adjust the height to fit different cases. It uses a little screw to secure the cable at the desired height. I use it with a Caze thin edge and works great.

I'm just absolutely baffled by the lack of quality docks available for the iPhone 5. At this point I'm ready to just splurge a little and buy the JBL OnBeat Micro or the Bose SoundDock III....

LoL you're looking for a dock and decide one of those are the best choice? Wow.... I bet it's really easy to upsell you!

I was looking specifically for a sound station and was looking at both those options.... leaning towards the "no highs, no lows must be Bose" but not 100% sold yet.

Not an easy way- I'll basically have to tear the thing apart to get to the connector in order to move it up.

...Wish I can do 1 hand unplug with this.

I gently filed down the tip of a lightning plug to remove most (but not all) of the indentations on the sides. These little indentations are used by the phone's connector to grip the plug securely. Reducing them makes it harder for the phone to grip the plug which makes it easier to undock.

Now, I haven't tried filing the indentation out completely. That might eliminate all grip and make it work more like the old 30-pin docks? Worth a shot , perhaps, if you're fine risking a $20 cable?

Pic shows normal plug on the left, modified on the right.

Kidigi dock first impressions

I had on one the cheap generics docks that have flooded Amazon and eBay, but it was awful. Failed after a few uses... Luckily I got it from a good seller who issued a full refund. Decided to try one more dock, and chose the KIDIGI dock found at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ASKV920/ Here's my first impressions.

1. It's fairly heavy. Quite a lot more than the first dock. I can remove the phone one handed, but do still need to keep a finger on the dock to keep it down.

2. The rubber used to hold your own lightning cable in place seems pretty tight, but not time will tell if it gets loose. Overall might be a better solution if you are really worried about a screw denting your cable (I am not, but I know some are).

3. Cases work fine, as you just feed through a bit more of the cable. When the phone is naked, the cable sticks out the bottom past the dock a tiny bit and it touches the desk.

I have only used it with a iPhone 5, so I can't speak for the universality of the dock, but I can see no reason it would work with a iPad mini or iPad 4. The weight of the 4 might be a challenge, but I don't know. If anyone wants to send me a iPad 4 to test with, I'll be happy to give a full report ;)

“schuttenWorks” iPhone Acoustic Dock

This review is for the “schuttenWorks” iPhone Acoustic Dock that I recently received.

The dock is available for the iPhone 4/4S and the iPhone 5, and are available in a variety of different woods and colours from, Curly Maple, Walnut, Mahogany, Cherry and also coloured in Red, Blue and Green. Stock appears to be resplenished frequently and due to Christmas many finishes are not currently available, so I would recommend checking out the store on a frequent basis or send an email if you are looking for a particular finish.

I personally chose the iPhone 5 dock in a Cherry with the Apple Lightning cable. In my opinion this is a beautifully crafted dock the Cherry wood is vibrant and the varying grain brings character and depth.

The Apple Lightning cable just sits proudly within the dock and allows for the iPhone to fit snuggly with very little effort. Underneath the dock the cable is secured with a cable clamp and a deep grove allows for some excess cabling to be wound underneath within the base. The base has 4no bumpers made of rubber to prevent slippage which I find very effective.

The slot that the iPhone sits within while charging or resting holds the iPhone perfectly and the home button is still easily accessible by a cleverly placed notch in the dock. There is a removable bar to the rear of the slot that does allow a number of cases to be accommodated while the phone is being charged or just sitting pretty on your desk.

One of the selling attributes for this dock over other, “blocks” shall we say is the acoustic properties. Now personally I did not buy this dock to accentuate the sound but on the trials I have conducted it does appear to bring certain amplification.

I have been using the dock for a while now and I have to say I am very pleased with it. The dock will sit happily at home or work and will catch the discerning eye.
