So I have an older iPhone 5 being used by a younger kid in the family. Lately it has started to freeze up which I guess is thanks to installing iOS9 (can't go higher) but it also has started to loose all passwords for emails, wifi and even iCloud. Some contact are gone from the contact apps too so messages only shows the phone number and no name. Entering the passwords again works sometimes, sometimes not. Last time I checked the phone was completely logged out from iCloud with no trace of any previous account.

Anyone has this problem?

Get batterylife app and check battery life and see if needs new battery,
Make a backup and then erase and reinstall the OS.
If neither works, you may have to go to genius bar

Ok thanks I'll try that. Wanna edit my post also, the phone is running iOS 10
Yeah, I was going to say. I've got two iPhone 5's (5, not 5s) on iOS 10. My daughter has one and I use the second one as my secondary phone.

Might just need to restore as new. Something to try before making a genius appointment.

Has it been dropped recently?

Not that I'm aware of

The whole shuts down even when connected part is what is throwing me off. I want to say battery, but a battery ahs nothing to do with a device once said device is connected to an external power source. My only other option that can cause this is something wrong with the PCB from a drop.

It doesn't shut down, iTunes says it disconnects so it can't continue with the backup

So for those of you who are interested, I managed to do a backup in iTunes (don't know why it worked this time) but now all the mail accounts are gone. It is like the phone is loosing more and more settings. Very strange but now I'm doing a reset.

I would at this point just set it aside and stop using it. It obvious can't hold a setting anymore. Apple will not service it so trying to further diagnose it will cause further headaches as we are always stopped due to disconnections from iTunes.

You could try to fix it by buying up a logic board. However, that may be expensive and hard to do without the required tools.

I read somewhere the other day that the disconnection problem is an iOS 10 glitch.
