I'm think we will see an increase in capacity. The iTouch came out with 64GB just after the iPhone 4 was released, and it is way thinner. I realize there is more hardware in the iPhone, but I think they will fund a way.

Let's hope the pricing of flash will also be decent for 1 stick of 64GB.... IF not, than no 64GB flash for the iPhone....

This.

The iPod Touch has room for 2 NAND chips. The iPhone only 1.

Wouldn't need my iPod anymore if that was the case. And my camera. Jeez, it'd replace everything.

Just hope Apple decides to add a microSD slot. HD videos takes up ALOT of space. Same with the games now that the resolution has gotten higher. Think of memory like inflation. It might seem like alot now, but in 2-3 years it becomes a bare minimum.

A 20 min animated video at the original iPhone's resolution of 480x320 is at 70-90MB. At the 720p HD resolution (1280x720), it is about 750GB! We are talking about 10X more. So 80GB and 160GB for these HD videos is almost equal to 8GB and 16GB for those older 480x320 if you consider having the same exact videos. Of course, many videos will always stay at their native resolutions of VGA or QVGA like many of the older YouTube videos.

I remember even the iPod classic only peaked at 160GB. The reality is, not everybody will ever be satisfied with the amount of space. You might as well get them a terabyte. At least a memory slot gives you options without the waiting.

A 16GB microSD vs a 32GB microSD is only a difference of $30 at Amazon. We don't have to wait a year or whatever the next iPhone announcement will be. A non-expandable memory storage is never that great in the longer run. There is always ways to fill it up fast especially with HD videos, games, or highly converted songs. You are living off Apple's time and decisions to make it happen if you are yearning for more space. And I don't like that Apple's competitors decided to put only no memory slots in some of their devices. Think most WP7 phones (minus Samsung Focus), Nokia N9, HPalm phones, and the BlackBerry PlayBook. Apple makes great products, but they are not perfect. I don't want to see them influence others by not adding a memory slot.

A memory slot can be more cost efficient and eliminate all the waiting. More flexibility.

I hope so only if the 32GB model replaces the 16GB model for £500. £100 for 16GB of additional storage is an absolute joke at the moment I think. Either way I'll get the lower end model and save the £100 or so and treat myself towards something else. :)

Do you mean that photos are no longer stored on the device and are on the photo stream instead? If so, that's awesome! If not, I still stand by the fact that iCloud doesn't save any space.

I'm getting all this from the link I previously posted so if I'm incorrect or making an assumption (I'm going from memory now) I hope someone corrects me. Photo Stream only saves them for a month. Let's say you have a Mac and an iPhone and an iPad. When you take a photo, it is copied to all three. On the Mac the photos stay there forever. However, on the iPad and iPhone the Photo Stream Album contains the last 1000 photos for a month. If you don't do anything, photos roll out of that folder after a month and only exist on the Mac. However, in that month if you copy them out to a different folder on the iPad or iPhone they stay there until you delete them. The beauty is that if you take a long trip you aren't limited by the space available in your iPhone. All pics go up into iCloud and you can just keep snapping away. Since I sync to a Windows desktop, I'm not able to sync with iTunes so while I'm away so I don't risk losing my iPhone on the last day and losing all my photos.
