Not sure what it is but it's certainly not a 3G/S. If you honestly think it's "washed out" then you're blind as hell. The bezel is the dead give away.

That's a washed out picture of the 3Gs. Look just to the left of the blue shirted guy's elbow. You'll see a blue 4/5 G iPod Nano. Apple doesn't sell those anymore and hasn't since September of 2010.

I second this. The picture makes it look like the phone has a thinner bezel than it actually has.

Yeah...Apple may have hidden images online on occasion, but they certainly wouldn't make it into a poster and stick it in a store. 3GS.

And if there is a naming scheme to the images on that webpage, I'd say that photo was in 2009. Just a guess, however.

If I was in marketing trying to be sneaky in putting hints of an iPhone 5 image, I would backdate the image file name to throw people off... or take an old image with old products in the foreground, and photo shop a blury image of a new product in the background.... lol... but who knows.:p

Yes, me too, but I think we all know Apple's marketing department doesn't put out any hints whatsoever.

Cept when they get an engineer drunk, drop them off at a bar, and pray to the El Jobso God himself that he leaves it on the bar stool and some dude happens to find it and sell it to a tech website.

That was brilliant marketing.

It is quite clear that the entire back wall product banner area is overexposed, meaning there is almost certainly a silver bezel around the phone that we can't see.

(Something else to note, the image file is called next_hero)
"Hero image" is a generic term for the most prominent image on a page, so the file name means nothing (other than the date, which clearly tells us that this image is from 2009).

Anyone who is seriously entertaining the idea that this is anything but some pre-iPhone 4 model phone is on drugs.

I wouldn't think Apple will sneak a peek of the next iPhone, but the image doesn't look like a 3G/S to me. I have my son's 3G in front of me, and it looks nothing like the image in the background. Looking at the image, and looking at the 3G screen in front of me, the screen is definately wider on the image. Also, the ear speaker is closer to the screen compared to my son's 3G. Comparing the image and 3G in front of me, I would tend to rule out a 3G/S... unless the image in the background is distorted.

While I don't really see apple making a marketing mistake like that.. This pic to me is not a 3G/s. Screen looks wider, bezel is much thinner, and that ear piece is closer to the screen... Maybe our eyes are just playing tricks;) I'd like to see a poll lol of whO thinks this is or isn't a 3G/s...

Aaaand here is another picture that clearly matches the banner from Apple's image, and shows that it's a 3G:
