My IP4 is my first iphone so i'm not sure what the longer design felt like. But this design seems similar and looks to be thinner. I wouldnt put it past Apple to incorporate liquidmetal for this device.
I'll be picking up the next iPhone pretty much no matter what the form factor is. HOWEVER, with that said, there are two key exceptions: if the device gets bigger, wider, squatter, etc.; or too thin.
I like it. I REALLY hope they bring back the rounded edges of the previous models. I like the flat back, but it's so much easier to pick up and to hold with rounded edges.

I think we can be pretty confident that we will not see a fully enclosed aluminum back on the next iPhone because of antenna issues. A similar Liquid Metal back is also out of the question because it's a mix of 3 or more metals.
If Apple sticks with the current design (and there's no reason to believe otherwise) they could go for a Liquid Metal back plate (since the antenna is on the outside), or carbon fiber (or anything else but shatter-prone glass). I still think 'metal' is out of the question even for the back plate because of it's close (if not direct) proximity to the wrap-a-round antenna.
Other than 'innards', I think that is the most we're likely to see.

I love the design. However I doubt there will be a smart cover for it...
