I'm on telus and i got this issue too.
I had talk with a tech from telus who said that the iphone 5 got big issue with the HSPA networks.bell, telus, koodo, virgin due to the LTE CHIP that cannot manage the choice of the connection 3G,4G,LTE . This make the user of this networks can't use LTE properly.
No official statement from any provider we still wait about an update .the use of a ip5 on this networks make it terribly poor reception same things on 3G and it seems this issue cause the (no service) and the battery drain .
Theres a post on apple website and all this issues seems to be link together.

I'm also having this issue on O2 in the UK.

Seems to be getting worse for me day by day. atm every 2 days i get no service.

Only reboot fixes it- and even then it takes longer than normal to find signal - around 20-30secs.

I thought it was just me. I'm in Central Jersey and I'm noticing the areas where I had at least one bar showing "No Service" with ease. I'm not sure if maybe my 4S was inaccurate because I can't recall every holding a call in these particular areas but it appears it gives up much quicker when hunting.

i had this problem on my iP5 also. Dropped 4G, went to edge and eventually no service. did a full restore & setup as a new phone and did not help. went to apple and they replaced the phone and no longer had the issue:) also am MUCH better battery on the new phone :D

My problem is slightly different. Whenever I go underground(train) I lose signal as expected however when I come out of the train station it doesnt regain signal, I have to switch airplane mode on and off for it to start searching for the network. Nothing major but its slightly annoying.

Never goes into 3G mode

I'm having the same issue. My iphone 5 goes in and out of service way more frequently than my 4s. It also skips 3G as 4g becomes unavailable.

I have not seen the 3G symbol once on my iPhone 5 and was traveling this past weekend up north in 3G only areas. It went from 4G to edge. Never to 3G in-between.

Does your phone see the 3G network now? Or does it jump down from 4G to edge?

Dido on that problem....

My new iPhone 5 drops the LTE network and does not go back to 3G... Yesterday night I found myself with no service just before a phone conference; great.

Had to reboot, but still no service... I am sad and

Update on turning off LTE

Hi. It's 3 days since I posted and tried turning off the "enable LTE" in settings under cellular. I have not dropped Bell network since. I will continue in this fashion for a while and see if issue is resolved. Not sure if it's a Bell or an Apple issue.

I paid for and expect a 4G phone, but will continue with a 3G phone for now as that seems to at least maintain the network.

I did throw the Sim into my Galaxy S 3 (using a sim converter) for a few days and was getting the "no service " problem on it. Before the iPhone launch I never had this problem and had the GS3 from day 1 without a drop. It might be a problem with new sim. I also did drop buy the Apple store and talk to one of the genius guys and he said that this is a known problem and that Apple is working on a fix.

No service on iPhone 5 / GSM

Am reading others posts on this issue with great interest as I am using a iPhone 5 (US/Verizon model) in Canada with a Telus pre-paid sim card and am having exactly the same problem.

At times it connect to the GSM network and is operational for about 24-48 hrs. Then, it either displays "No service" or "searching" in areas that clearly have connectivity.

In addition to the problems reported on this thread, I am also experiencing an additional issue - that being that the phone seems to not be able to get past the SIM unlock screen.

Specifically, I changed the default Telus SIM PIN code from 0000 to another number. when I power off/on the phone I am not able to get past the SIM unlock screen.

I have tried resetting network settings, toggling Airplane mode and soft reseting the phone to no avail

As with others, am interested to know if this might be a hardware issue or something that could be fixed by a software update by Apple.

No, still 4G. I have never seen 3G on my iP5

No Service defect

Exact same problem here. Have to reboot to fix it. Airplane mode doesn't help ... really annoying! May have to get a replacement phone if it keeps happening.

I have the same problem here. It just a one month since I bought it from Singapore online shop. I use Mobitel in Sri Lanka. It shows "No service" If i do not use the phone for few hours. Probably 4-5 times a day.
I contacted apple via a chat. They asked me to reset the phone. Then instructed me to update to 7.0.4. But did not work. Still the restart should be done. Thinking of sending the phone back to them. Any suggestions please let me know.
