As I said people who have never dropped their phones have this issue as well, it's irrelevant.

So let's all drop our phones and smash them to bits and see first hand how that directly affects the function of the phone. It's irrelevant when others who don't drop their phones are experiencing any sort of coincidence.

I had this a couple of years ago, turned out there was a tiny little stone in the earphone socket.

The genius removed it with some kind of Dr Who sonic screwdriver! :D

Had the same exact issue with an iPhone 5 a little while ago. Took it to an Apple store, they looked at it, and simply replaced the phone, which did the trick.

You can try but there isn't much you can do. Warranty is up so you're on your own.
If it had issues they would have showed up back in January when you first received it, not 6 months later.
If they messed up the display trying to replace other parts its on them and they have to fix the screen. Im surprised they didn't tell you what the problem was or what needs to be replaced. Maybe the logic board since not sure what else would effect the ear piece.
But maybe try a local repair place, it might be cheaper than paying the out of warranty replacement fee.

great news.
called customer service, explained the problem, and the rep was kind enough to add the exception to get the phone replaced with no charge. it was out of warranty. went to the store today, and got the brand new phone. Great Customer Service. :):):)

Great to hear. There were only two outcomes really, either they reject fixing/replacing it or they do. Why not try? Glad to hear they sorted it out and you have a working phone again, hopefully this one gives you less trouble.

thanks, that what i am going to do. but i am not sure that just calling 800-apple will solve the problem. is there any executive customer service line number that can provide expedited resolution?

Had you brought the phone in for a receiver issue while it was under warranty. If you had and they chalked it up to software then you have a chance.

If not then it's not a warranty concern anymore. You are out of warranty so you should not expect them to do anything in regards to covering the cost.

And no there isn't some special number you can call that is above Apple Care etc.

----------

it has to be a mobo issue.. get it replaced or u replace it urself.

Or it's not a mobo issue. It could be merely the connector the receiver goes to, which is part of the display assembly and why they would need to replace the display.

----------

It's been through worse when it was in an otter box, it's an apple issue not mine.

Not necessarily. The otterbox prevented the screen from cracking or enclosure denting but it doesn't mean that there wasn't internal impact damage.

Sort of like how a football player can be wearing a helmet so there is no bruise or cut when he smashes his head into that of another player. But he still ends up with a concussion and/whiplash.

You got lucky:)
Great customer service to still take care of you even after the warranty coverage expired.
Can't beat Apples support.

i agree, and the best part was that it didn't even take more then 10 mins on the call and 20 mins in the store for everything to be done. on top of it, the customer service rep who did the exception also called me after genius appt to verify that everything was done. cannot beat that. :):)

i have the iphone 5 black 16gb with t-mobile and the phone suddenly started working only on speakerphone. if i disable speakerphone, i cannot hear any noise/sound.

i tried restoring completely as a new phone with 7.1.1 and still the same.

any tips/ideas will be highly appreciated.
Followed the video on YouTube and stuck an ear bud in the headphone jack and my phone went straight to ringer
