Same problem, the button first stopped responding on the right then totally failed.

My phone is out if warranty now although the issue started in the warranty period I was just too busy to deal with it and it worked on the left side.

When I did contact Apple Care they were not interested and denied that they had ever heard of this issue. I was told it would cost £209 (or something like that) to repair or replace.
The guys in the Apple Store said they hadn't seen the problem either, yet the next person in line had the exact same issue!

My phone is 15 months old and is now a pain to use. I regularly need to take screen shots of electronic emailed tickets and I can't do that now. If there is no email connection I have problems calling up the ticket for scanning.

Apple you are aware that this is a common problem. These devices are not cheap and we should not have to accept a design/manufacturing defect that essentially means we are taking pot luck when we buy this product. Take a leaf out of the motor industry, stop being so greedy and issue an extended repair/replacement policy for this issue.

EU/UK warranty is for a minimum of two years. As long as you can prove it's an inherent issue (Apple discussion threads etc) and your phone is in good cosmetic condition, Apple or the retailer you purchased the phone from should replace it FOC. My power button failed shortly before the standard warranty expired so I didn't have any hassle getting a replacement, but following the advice above should get you a replacement phone.

just wanted to ask a question as mines doing this now. with the replacments are the buttons a better design ? what i mean is have apple improved them as i have never ever had this problem with other devices they sell as it sounds like a design flaw with this power button.

thanks

My 5 didn't have power key problem. Do I still need to bring in? Maybe in the future this will happen?
