Unfortunately the 64 GB was not readily available on that day, so I will be getting one today. But 48 hrs is not bad to get a new one.

A friend of mine managed to get her iphone 5 - 16 GB. Exchanged on the spot as they had plenty in stock.

I wonder how many replacements are floating around given they no longer produce the iPhone 5.

I'd hate to be given an iPhone 5c as a replacement.

Got a replacement iphone 5. They opened the box seal in front of me.

Shiny new iphone 5.

I suppose apple will be having plenty in stock as they keep refurbishing phones sent for warranty replacement and the cycle goes on.

I just got brand new iphone 5 out of the box. The power button is totally numb from the right side, you cant even press it. The left works and clicks though.

Get it replaced.

It's from a carrier and in my country they generally SUCK at providing service as they will take it away for up to a month. So stupid. I'm glad I kept my 4S and didn't sold it as it will save things for the service time. Anyways I'm disappointed with apple's/foxconn QC. And how I should not be when I knew this might happen even before I bought it. In total this phone has 4 buttons and for all the money it costs they fail to make all of them work just fine? Even long enough after launch date. There are people which have replaced like 2-3 phones only to get a good one. That's unacceptable for me.

where are you from?

In India, we dont have any apple stores, but all we have are apple authorised resellers. And I was able to get a replacement from them.

Alternatively you can send an email / complaint to apple on their website customer support. I am sure they will help.

The broken ones get sent out to get fixed, new battery, replace any damaged parts, then they are sent to the carriers which will sell them online as refurbished. Or, some may go to the Apple stores also.

I'm sure Apple has plenty of shiny new iPhone 5's hanging around, they aren't going to be stupid enough to sell them out completely, they save some for warranty replacements and such. They also will have lots of refurbished ones if they don't figure out how to improve QC on that lock button. ...the 5s uses the same form factor, so they should have no problem refurbishing iPhone 5's for as long as they are under warranty/AppleCare.

for those that were able to get it replaced, how love have you had your iphone 5? i had mine since launch. Will that affect me? My lock button is completely useless.

ive got a doozy

okay, heres the deal. i need to be able to turn off my iphone to proceed with some steps that i must take to unlock it because it is permanently disabled. So..... can anyone please help me by telling me how i can possibly turn off my iphone when the sleep/wake button does not work AND the iphone is permanently disabled from my little brother typing in too many wrong codes. please someone help me. i just want to get it working again. the computer that i am forced to use, i have never synced this phone with it before. so i know how to fix it but first i must get the phone off and seeing as how it is disabled and there isnt much of anything that i can do to quickly run the battery down because of its disabled status and i really dont want to wait for it to very slowly die on its own, please can someone give me some advice.

NOTE: if taking out the battery requires any special iphone tools, i do not have them.

this has been absolute hell dealing with so if anyone can help me you have no idea how much that will mean to me.

When my iPhone 5 lock button was not working correctly, I found (by reading online) that if I pressed the left side of the button, it worked every time, right side never worked, in the middle (which is how I normally pressed it before) was inconsistent. Now, if your iPhone is under warranty, take it directly to an Apple Store ASAP, they will replace it for free, just tell them the button isn't working (calmly) and no prob. (make sure you do a sync and backup before going to store).

I went last night to Ridge hill mall in Yonkers and got denied cause it was 34 days past warranty.

Seriously?

U guys think I should try another store? Maybe 5th ave? Will they be a bit more lenient?

I also seen that issue before in my friend's iphone and he has to go in Apple store for fixing the prob.
The only way to fix the problem under warranty is to replace the device.

For those who live in territories where there is no authorized Apple Genius location, I'd be inclined to consider another cell phone manufacturer where this local technical warranty support. Otherwise, it will be a while for Apple to send you a refurb replacement device.

Had mine replaced with a refurbished model yesterday, 13 days out of warranty. I did mention the problem had been getting progressively worse, not sure if this made a difference or not.

Counting myself as lucky this time.

i had my original iphone 5 replaced last december due to a failing lock button. the replacement phone has worked perfectly fine, however the button kind of teeters from side to side like its high centered in the middle. im wondering if im gonna have an issue with this one, as im also out of warranty. but i guess ill cough up the $24 for the new ribbon cable and do the repair myself if needed.

on a side note, my sisters iphone 4 (way out of warranty) had the speaker blow on it the other day. she brought it to apple and they replaced it for no cost. guess she got lucky. just goes to prove that even if you are out of warranty, its always worth a shot. infact my coworker is going there tomorrow for this exact button issue and i told him to give it a shot, if not we will fix it ourselves.

Hi I am too just out of warranty for mine by 3 days. Same issue as many here - the right hand-side 100% non-responsive when pressed lightly or firmly. The centre press & left all perfect.
I have made a Genius booking for Thursday 21st @ 9:10 am. That will make me 5 days over my warranty. I will be explaining that this issue arose just recently & that my concern is that it will get progressively worse over time. The phone was purchased outright on the 16th November, 2012.
I will report back here to inform of my outcome.
BTW this iPhone 5 is going to my partner, when I upgrade to either 5s or the 6, who currently has an iPhone 3GS & that has never skipped a beat. It's power button is 100% responsive to this day!

Well I got a new (or possibly refurbished) iPhone 5 today, as unknown to me we have a 2 year warranty in Oz! So, I still have another year of cover should any other issues arise. It all took about 7 minutes & I was done :)!

Did a info check from this site:

Seems like it is.

I am going in today. I've been using a tough Griffin Survivor case so I never had issue until today when I took it out of the case and I noticed the same as the previous posters.

I imagine this issue will be fixed with the iPhone 5S.

Unfortunately the issue was not fixed with the iPhone 5s. I just had mine, which I bought 3 days ago, replaced because the wake/sleep button ceased working.

My first iphone 5 had this issue a few days out of the box. My replacement phone has been good for a year+. But last night it started to do the same thing. Never dropped it. Sometimes it takes 3-4 clicks to get the unlock button to work and sometimes there is a delay after hitting the button. Apple OK'd the replacement but the new phone will have iOS 7.X on it... so I'd lose my jailbreak. I have 260 days left on my extended warranty, so maybe I'll wait a little.

This just started happening to my 5 and I'm 10 days out of warranty. Took it my Apple store today and was told it would cost $264.00 for a replacement. Decided to try calling Apple and after the operator put me on hold for 10 min they waived the $19.99 tech fee to suggest setting my phone up as new.

I don't ever feel entitled to things but I thought they would do something "helpful" about this.

It's a hardware issue so I'm not sure how effective it would be to "set up as new".

If it works though please let us know!

She also suggested putting the phone into recovery mode. I slammed my head on the wall to that one.

Haha.. I feel your pain. I'm just so disappointed that they would not exchange the phone a factory defect. Cause that's clearly what this is.

I don't even want a 5s. I just want a replacement 5 and I'll be happy.

no kidding.. I tried to get mine fixed. I was 3 days out of my warranty!! 3 DAYS!! They said it was 280$ to fix it.
No thanks!
