mine does the same thing. took it to the apple store, they didn't know about the issue, but every phone we tried did the same thing.... not a huge deal, but still kinda lame for the latest and greatest supposedly

thread: iPhone 5 power/lock button loose and rattling?

Took mine back in the first week. Every one on display did not rattle. They gave me a brand new one (not reconditioned). The Apple guy said it wasn't supposed to do that.

I just got a replacement i5 tonight (like an hour ago) and didn't notice this until I had left. This one is very loose and clicks and rattles.

Maybe I'll call AppleCare and complain, I really don't want to to back to the store

My last i5 had a little rattle in the home button, this one is super solid (wasn't my reason for swap, I had cellular radio issues)

Hmm, I've had rattling issues too but with the power button, but many people seem to have it as well and some dont.
I'm starting to think I should've waited a couple months till I got the new phone.
I love my phone but I these little things can just be annoying, especially a phone of this quality

ive got the rattle as well.

annoying as hell - right out of the box.

i think i'll take it back and see what my local apple store says

I've got a slightly loose power button and when I shake the iP5 side to side and near my ear a faint rattle is heard....not overly concerned as I prefer the feedback (rather than a stiff/clicky noise)

Just wanted some feedback though on whether you hear a rattle when placing the phone flat on a table/desk....or if you hold your iP5 with a finger on either side and gently tap the back/top side on a flat surface ( perhaps a cloth so you don't damage the thing!).....I get a pretty loud rattle..I've tried to depress the power button whilst tapping on the cloth and the tap is still there and loud as ever...

This also happens if I pick up the iP5 and gently drop it on my palm...loud, tinny, rattle from the camera side...

I understand that this is probably the vibrator motor or the camera optics, but just wanted to confirm...

Who cares if the power button rattles, I mean really? Some do it, some don't. My 4S has a very loose rattling sleep wake button. It works just fine though. Don't shake it, problem solved!

I replaced my iPhone due to a faulty camera sensor (showed a bright white pixel in every photo in the dark), and my replacement had a very loose volume up button. I replaced it again. All the display models had very sturdy buttons, so it's not normal behavior.

It is normal behavior. As long as the buttons are not falling out then your fine. Some buttons are just more loose than others.

Well perhaps, but one of my buttons could actually sort of make a click without actually "clicking" if you know what I mean. That's not how it's supposed to be.

Nice one e=mc2...I really like what you're trying to do here.."Here's your card back, I'll call you".....

rattling iphone 5 lock button

I also have the issue of the rattling lock button however the main right side of my lock button does not work anymore...i've had it for 2 weeks not even. If anyone knows anything to do about this please inform me. I don't know how to fix it myself.

The power and volume buttons on the 5 seem to be like women, some are as tight as a frogs arse, others looser than the grand canyon, go figure.

loose power button as well.
Total myth that the iphone 5 has peerless build quality. absolute rubbish.
htc one x is the best built phone on the market today.
too bad the software screws it up.
htc should not be in last place. they have far better products than the SIII. Had they just made the one x a nexus phone with stock android it would have been a true winner.

I called up Apple and asked them about this. Apparently it's the auto focus or something in it.

That is complete utter bs.
I have two rattles. One from power button. One which comes around near the camera.

If I hold onto the power button with my index finger and shake it. Still rattles. But with a different tone. So that proves it's the power button and the camera/vibrator or whatever. Shoddy build.

What's more annoying on my white i5 is that you turn up brightness to even half in a dark room and you can see light leakage
just below the power button where glass meets metal chamfered edge...

P.s new white is coming 2moro. I'll take some pictures. See if this fares any better.
However re: power button rattle. It is on all of them. Just shoddy build...very unapple like.

Mine rattles too. Already replaced my other for a half recessed power button though. I understand the autofocus atuff slightly rattles but my phone is a lot quieter if I hold the power button and give it a shake.
