Not to disrupt this thread by getting back on topic, but here goes. I've seen October mentioned mostly in this forum, but I've seen more stuff in print on searches that seems to point to a return to the summer release pattern. I personally, from a non-scientific and know nothing view point, think it's 60/40 summer/fall. If it were me I would hesitate to burn an upgrade on a 4S at this point. I had the itch also and decided to sell my DX and picked up a used iphone 4 on craigslist for $200 to hold me over and saved my upgrade until the 4GS/5/6/6G/NEW/No Name/Whatever... is released, whether that be June or October. So if you simply want to get away from Android like I did, that would be my suggestion on the easiest, most efficient and economical way to do it.

Thanks bro for the specific answer.

Amazing. Most of the posts in this thread have absolutely nothing to do with the OP (i.e., the RELEASE DATE). Instead they go on and on about what the friggin' thing is going to be called. Who cares?

I remember a time when we actually used to get information/rumors about future releases, whether they were accurate or not. It was kind of fun to see pics of what might be the next iPhone or to hear a rumor that might have some credibility, due to the source. IDK, It seems like things might have changed after the infamous "iPhone 4 lost in a bar" incident, because now we mostly argue about what the iPhone will be called. Boring.

Back on topic: I'm thinking the fall for the release. Better sooner than later.

While I would like to see a summer release I don't have an upgrade available until November and could likely get it bumped up by a month so hopefully it comes out in the fall. Besides it would seem odd for Apple to rush it out after 9 months. But Tim Cook is certainly doing a lot of things Steve never did so all bets are off.:apple:

What is Tim doing that Steve never did ?

OP...

No one knows when its really going to come out. Only Tim Cook does, so these questions can never be answered with any authority. ;)

All speklayshun, but keep the fun going

Couple month ago, a friend who reads Japanese rumor sites religiously told me that "5" [can we just call it what's on the friggin' box?] will come out in Summer, but that's just likely accumulated wishful thinking.

My guess is that the most likely reason for a summer release would be to fight back against advances by Android, Samsung, etc. But what the H do I know? Look forward to the speculations as people get a bigger Jones on for the next iPhone...

I would like to see a summer release. My sleep button on my 4 broke and cant stand it.

I love how you all are so childish that you got so off topic it's not even funny. Intell actually makes the best point and I don't get why people can't understand that. The 4s IS the 5Th gen iPhone. I actually prefer to call it that over "the 4s". Blah blah blah.

The next gen iPhone is expected fall 2012 end of discussion. Of course Apple can be really predictable and release it whenever they want.

The microphone on my iPhone 4 has gone intermittent and it is a royal pain.

I do not want an iPhone 4S because at this point I could use a larger screen.

I may try to repair the iPhone 4 and use it until the next one is released, if I cannot fix it I will look at something else.

Would you rather me call the current iPhone model the "iPhone 5th Generation" or the "5th Generation iPhone"? All the numeral+G does is make the "Generation" shorthand.

I would prefer you call it by its given name. If Apple had not given it a name, then I would not argue your logic. However, Apple has given it a name. To use anything other than it's given name is illogical and confusing.

Some people did and still do. Using common sense to know that the G stands for "Generation" makes the numeral+G an acceptable naming scheme. You are correct, and for a company to name a phone after the generation of it's network is silly and confuses the mass. Apparently the masses here too.

Original iPhone (1st Gen) used 2G network
Iphone 3G (2nd Gen) used 3G network
iPhone 3GS (3rd Gen) used 3G network
iPhone 4 (4th Gen) used 3G network
iPhone 4S (5th Gen) used 3G (and 3.5) network

So using "common sense" the iPhone 3G was the 3rd generation iPhone, yes? Even though it came directly after the 1ST iPhone it is clearly the 3rd generation iPhone.

We can't accurately predict a release date for the next iPhone. All previous iPhones were released in e June/July timeframe, except the 4S which arrived in October. So it could really be either one.

Lol no point in trying to argue with them. Their way of explaining it just confuses everyone. It was given a name for a reason so calling the iPhone 4S an iPhone 5G is plain stupid.

Calling it an iPhone 5G is stupid, but saying I have the 5th Generation iPhone isn't.

I am thinking summer. All of the other iPhones have been released in summer. The only reason the 4s was released in Oct is because this was the first year Apple made a CDMA version. They didn't want to have new Verizon and Sprint customers buying the 4 and they didn't want to make the AT&T customers wait any longer, so everyone needed to get on the same page. I think now that everything is on schedule, they will go back to summer releases.

It is 50/50 June or October, no one here truly knows except the higher ups at Apple obviously.

Some say they are going to back to their first four iPhone release date, which were all in June/July, others say October is now the new release month.

We won't have a solid feel if it is Summer or Fall release until late May / early June, at that time we should hear buzz if a new iPhone is imminent, or little to no buzz which will mean a Fall release. Until then this thread is pointless.

June/July would not surprise, due to millions of iPhone4 owners being ready for an upgrade at that time, and Apple would not want to give them a reason to get the Galaxy S3 or HTC One X, or Nokia-Windows phone.

I never said it being called the 5th generation iPhone was stupid. But Intell was calling the iPhone 4S a iPhone 5G which is very stupid. Going by his way of thinking everyone would think the iPhone 3G was the 3rd generation iPhone instead of the 2nd generation.

I like the name iPhone6 ( for being the 6th generation iPhone, and having iOS6 ), plus if it is a huge design change, skipping the iPhone5 name makes it sound like a bigger upgrade.

Intell just wants to cause an argument. He does this from time to time if you read his posts. Not someone we should give a second thought to. ;)

It'll be September. I think they will finally refresh the iPod Touch as well. They've got a pretty good release cycle going now, and I think they will stick to it.

I know, and I agree with you. Not sure what Intell's intentions were here but G does stand for generation, so in a way he was right, but you're way better off actually saying generation rather than G in those regards.
