This may only work with certain apple stores. I tried this several times and the employees told me their shipment arrives in the late morning (11a-12p) as opposed to prior to opening time (10a). Or you can do what I did and call the store before hand to check the stock.

Be wary of calling the store when you are still at home. This stuff if first come first serve so you might miss out on the phone due to the drive.

Just a little FYI I know this won't help for people that live far away from an Apple store but if you live close to one and don't mind possible wasting your time it might be worth your while to just show up at the store at opening time. Both apple stores in the Galleria and Baybrooke in Houston told me that they were only selling the phone via reservation however, when I finally managed to reserve one and went to pick it up I saw they were actually letting people walk in and buy them as well. Might be worth your while if you are having terrible luck with the online reservation like I was.

I can confirm my local apple store doing this also. (Deer Park, IL)

Just got off the phone with Verizon and they say Oct 26 ship dates if you order online today. Figured I'd test my luck on the 10pm reservation from apple since I'm fairly close to a store.

They've been showing Oct26 for about a week. I decided to try my 10pm luck for 5 days and keep checking the verizon website to see if that Oct 26 date changed. On my fourth night I got lucky with Apple. To me it's totally worth it to try it for a few days.

For those that have had success with this, do you pay at the time of reservation or when you actually pick up the phone the next day?

I haven't had luck yet, but I've read of a few folks who missed out because they were late getting credit card information in.

I'm guessing they pre-authorize/hold the amount on the card at the time of pre-order, and then process the charge when you actually pick it up.

I have 10 more browser sessions ready to rock and roll for 10pm. I should start a full time business doing this... I'm certainly quick at the draw. :D

Awesome I'll be online at 10. Any other tips?
If you don't see inventory appear right at 10:00, don't fret. Keep checking for about 15 minutes.

When I scored my first phone, it didn't actually show up as available until about 10:10 or so.

It took me until 10:05 PM to get mine to work. But it only took me a couple of tries. i still need one more. So I get to keep doing this until I can get it.

You guys refresh or no?

You guys refresh or no?

what I learned from this thread is that you should keep refreshing about 10 minutes prior to 10pm and 10 minutes after.

at first I was unsure what everyone meant by refreshing, but I found that on the website version, once you have that pop up that asks you to enter your zip code to show the nearby stores, keep hitting "LOCATE". you may notice every time you hit this button, the green "check out" button in the background flashes.

I kept doing this and started losing confidence when "unavailable for pick up" was all I saw. but around 10:05, it finally turned green and said "in stock".
Once you see this, do not hesitate to pick the store and update your cart.

as people said, its highly recommended you have "Express Checkout" turned on. you should ensure this is on before you even get to the screen that allows you to enter your zip.

I sped through as fast as I could and cannot remember exactly the screens that followed, but I do remember it asks for your phone number (optional as to call you when ready, but they will email you anyway), and to enter the security code on the back of your CC. so either you have the CC next to you or remember that 3 digit code. then just keep proceeding and if you get to the last screen telling you they're processing your order, you are golden.

I hope this helps anyone who is sort of new to trying the reservation system as I was. good luck
