i believe if the screen is 3.7 inches then the display will still be above the magic 300dpi, i saw someone post this somewhere but cant find it.

*hoping* this is announced in June. I think we will start to see more leaks now this has surfaced (unless its fake).

iPhone 4 is 326 pixels, I don't think it worths a trade off 3.5 326 pixels for 3.7 with 300 pixels

This is a thread about a new iPhone in an iPhone sub-forum. Why wouldn't there be a lot of talk about the new iPhone here?

Im confused as to what he wants us to talk about in here?

Ignore troll posts like that. He can simply not reply to the topic. This is the IPHONE forum after all.

I can't wait for the 5. Hopefully it is pretty awesome since we gotta wait a little longer.

I think your eyes would be hard pressed to see the difference.

The Atrix is set to 240ppi by default, but can be switched to 275ppi.
It's not at 275 by default due to an issue with the way the dialer keypad is rendered in Android. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

I can tell you this, at 275ppi, I can't see any difference between that and my wife's iPhone 4 screen.

Atrix 960x540 @275 ppi 16:9 aspect

iPhone 4 960x640 @320 ppi 3:2 aspect (according to Apple's own specs it's 320 ppi, not 326)

We're talking a difference of 55 ppi.

So if Apple had to drop the res down to 300 ppi, I seriously doubt anyone would notice the 20 missing pixels.

You know how I know this isn't a real prototype? Cause it doesn't have Apple's prototype designation numbers on the front of the phone next to the home button.

Oh they'll notice in this forum ::rolleyes::

first off, the human eye can't detect the difference between 326 and 300 pixels, so you might as well get over that now.

in addition, 3.7" screen would be around 312ppi, not 300.

yea pretty much what i was saying.

It can detect it, just at a closer range than 12" from your eyes. Infact you are probably right even if you look up close you probably couldn't tell the difference between 326ppi and 312ppi!

But like above, as long as its above the 300ppi then all is good.

You should listen to yourself. This is a forum right? It's where we come to discuss about what we want to see in the coming upgrade? When did we ever say that this is our biggest worry in life? Don't generalize, and get yourself a grip.

Clearly you don't care, so don't troll.

Quite wrong. I'm very interested in the release of the iPhone 5. I'm keeping my 3G together with sticky tape and glue so I don't have to get the 4 just months before the 5 is released.

My post was unclear so sorry about that. My point was all the talk of screen size. What does it matter if it's 3.7/3.5/4.0...these are just minor fractions and ultimately you have no influence over Apples plans so why discuss the finer details. But I love forums and discussion so I welcome debate, just not over something so unimportant. But I agree that it's a forum and I don't have to read it, it just seemed pointless.

And I can't deny if I'm a troll as I don't know what that is! Oh, and 'get yourself a grip' doesn't actually make sense.

I thought we all figured out what a troll was because of Charlie Sheen.

how did you switch the resolution on the atrix?

Quick edit to the build.prop file. ;)

Look for this line and change 240 to 275. Do not go any higher than 275.
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
The qHD screen is designed to run at 275 ppi.

The stock Android (Froyo) dialer pad does not support this resolution, so it comes up blank at 275.
Motorola's "fix" was to drop the pixel resolution down to 240.
Everything else works fine at 275.
You can always use a replacement dialer from the Market.

Hopefully 2.3 will resolve the issue.

If Apple doesn't increase the display size for the next iPhone model they will fall ever further behind than they are compared to other devices. 4 inches and up is now the industry standard and thats the bottom line, weather you want to admit it or not.

Could you please point to any 4"+ phone which sells more units than the iPhone? I'm not aware of any. In fact i'd be extremely surprised if the sum of every 4"+ phone from every other manufacturer combined sold more than the iPhone!

You might think that 4" is "standard" - and it probably is standard, among the large brick-sized smart phones you might be looking at. But in the worldwide phone market, 4" is by no means standard - not even close! I know more people who would want a slightly smaller iPhone than i do who would want a bigger one. If they can make the screen bigger without affecting the overall phone size then fine - but no more! And, personally, i'd prefer the 3.5" screen in a smaller overall package.

ok, thanks, though seeing as how I do not understand any of that, I dont think I'll be editing any code right now. Though it is nice to now that the screen is even more capable and hopefully that gets fixed in gingerbread.

Thanks again.

Really hoping to see more screens like this in the coming months. A lot of sources are pointing at a larger screen..
