I don't know what "rules" means here. But yes, edge-to-edge means your phone-holding hands' fingers will accidentally touch the screen; which won't be acceptable. This is like the people who wanted no bezel on the iPad - it doesn't make sense. The bezel is there for a reason.

I think people are dreaming up all these extremely-thin designs. Let's be real, guys.

And the news also says iphone 5 will have a slide-out keyboard as well as a 4 in screen. ;)

I know people hate it when images are quoted, but this is superb. Really looks like something Apple would come out with, and very iPad inspired. Agree with most others that the full edge to edge screen wouldn't work due to constant mis-touches, and it does look slightly strange as well in the renderings. Although this one manages to maintain the larger screen size, whilst also squeezing in a small bezel to increase functionality.

The question aboyt the iphone 5 is, Is apple resting on his laurels? I wouldn't delay too much the release date because competition is becoming hard, and will become harder in some weeks. Iphone was choosen the best phone for 2010, ok but now we are in 2011 and everything is changing again. Apple should know that they could loose in 4 days what they have earned in 4 years if they apply the wrong strategy. They should start, at least, giving dates or showing a preview or whatever is needed to avoid a possible escape to the android market.

Apple keeps its own clock. Sometimes in spite of customer or fanboy wishes. Apples integration of phone, iOS and App Store still is the model to aspire to. No one yet matches it. Besides WWDC is the tech preview you are looking for. Sometimes it hurts Apple as it seems there maybe a lot of people wanting for the iPhone 4s/5 this summer. That maybe keeping people from upgrading to the iPhone 4 right now in the States. Having iPhone launch at WWDC usually gives Apple the stage all alone. Unlike the recent Mobile Congress where many manufacturers were crawling all over themselves to try and get some press time for their new phones.

But i think that it is now important to launch the iphone 5 asap, because market is changing and now there are outstanding models out there. And the numbers are impressive for the android market, they are growing very fast. Apple can't keep having their own clock because they are no more alone in this league now.

I personally would get the "iPhone Mini" in a heartbeat. I'd go even smaller actually- I'd even be willing to sacrifice some features in exchange for the smaller size. A major, MAJOR drawback of the iphone is that women can't keep it in their jeans pocket.
Maybe thats more of a drawback of women's jeans lol.
Either way it sucks.

lol wut? The phone is super thin as it is. If your jeans pocket can't accommodate the current iPhone 4, then your designer obviously made those pockets to be unusable to begin with. So yes I think it's more of a drawback for women's jeans.

My phone fits in my jeans (men's jeans) with about 2 or 3 inches to spare at the top and I barely notice that it's even there. I don't wear baggy pants or anything either.
