What do you want for the iPhone 5? These are my expectations, based off Apple's spec changes.

Processor: 1.0GHz or double at 1.4GHz Apple A5 Dual Core Processor (Com'on Apple, catch up!)

RAM: 1GB (Double Effect; iPhone 3G had 128MB, iPhone 3GS had 256MB and iPhone 4 has 512MB. It's logical to think that the RAM will double again.)

HDD: 16GB, 32GB, possible 64GB

Screen: 3.5" (Apple has not change this in the past, it's logical to assume it will stay the same. However, a slim to nil possibility of a bigger screen still exists.)

"3D" screen: No, not yet. Maybe for iPhone 6 or even iP7.

Camera: At least 6+ MP rear and maybe a 1MP front camera. Records at 1080p. Don't say the screen size matters, because it doesn't; the iPhone 4 can record 720p, which is a lot bigger than the resolution of the screen.

Network: Same Ole' 3G. (Waiting for full LTE roll-out.)

Catch up to who? LOLz. It's not about the specs. It never has been.

Nope, stays at 512. No need for 1GB yet.

I see A5 chip, better camera and better 3G antenna's. Where the hell are you figuring 1GB of ram?

That's the next step from 512. RAM is double (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 (1GB), 2048 (2GB) )

I'm also taking the 1GHz from the iPad 2.

Hate to break it to ya, but 5 will be a minor upgrade. iPad 2 (512mb) = iPhone 4 (still the same). iPhone 6 will be the big upgrade.

It doesn't need 1GB of ram. It'll probably have the A5 but it'll be the same thing as the iPad has and 1GHz.

I hope it'll fold my laundry for me. That would be great.

- 1GHz A5
- 8MP rear camera (wasn't this already rumoured a long time ago?)
- HD FaceTime (like the MacBook Pros)
- NFC (the new thing)
- 512MB RAM (possibly no reason for 1GB yet, although we have to see what iOS 5 brings)

The iPad is a year behind the iPhone so the amount of RAM in the iPad 2 has no bearing on the amount iPhone 5 will have. iPhone 5 is made for iOS 5, iPad 2 is made for iOS 4. The only thing the iPad will be slightly ahead in is the processor until Apple changes the update cycles.

The iPhone is the product in which Apple ships the highest-end components first (better cameras, more memory etc). The iPod Touch and iPad, on the other hand, have to factor in price more than the iPhone, and so their components are cheaper and, so far, seem to be a year behind the iPhone.

Yes, but it will have the A5 chip which will still make it faster therefore not needing 1GB of ram.

+ possible screen size increase (3.7 or 4 inches?)

I suspect a ram increase to at least 768mb

Yeah, that's why the iPhone got the a4 first and got the a5 first.
Oh wait.

Work on your logic

I just found this sweet mockup of the next iPhone:

I believe that, the iP5 won't be the same design as the iP4. You don't want to make the same mistake twice (antennagate). Plus, the latest rumor indicates iP5 will go back to it's original design of the older iPhone's.

I think we'll see:

• A5 processor
• Same 512MB RAM
• 5MP back camera but records 1080p
• HD quality front cam for FaceTime HD
• iOS 5 obviously

I don't think they will make a big change on the hardware, I think it will be all about iOS 5. I don't think there is any way they are changing the screen size. It would make it less sharp at this stage since I highly doubt they would also increase the actual pixels. There is no way that the Retina display only has a 1 year run in it's current configuration.

Processor: 800 mhz A5
Storage: 32 and 64gb
RAM: 512
Camera: VGA front and 8mp back (they have placed a huge order for these from same company they ordered the 5mp from)
Screen: 3.5 Retina
OS: iOS 5
NFC technology
HSPA+ technology (3g- though ATT calls it 4g)

Camera: At least 6+ MP rear and maybe a 1MP front camera. Records at 1080p. Don't say the screen size matters, because it doesn't; the iPhone 4 can record 720p, which is a lot bigger than the resolution of the screen.
The iPhone 4's screen is 960x640. 640 < 720. No the screen does not display 720p as the height is what determines HD resolutions.

While I find 1GB unlikely that doesn't mean I wouldn't appreciate it. You seem to be actively against spec increases. Why exactly? Better specs are nothing but an improvement.

Have you not seen the cdma iPhone?

Yeah, it was rumored Apple bought up a bunch of 8MP sensors about a year ago.

Two things indicate that's not true: 1. They just redesigned the antenna for Verizon. They're not going to redesign the whole thing again, 3 months later.
2. Apple has been getting two years out of a new design before they change it up again. And this one was a massive change. We've got another year of this model.

I would be pleasantly surprised, however, if they prove me wrong. Internals and software only this year.

Why do you think one, ONE, cycle of this patterns means Apple will stick to it. We only got one year with the first generation's design.

I think they will most likely keep it close to this - I can't see them bumping the iPhone 5 into 1GB of RAM (nor is there any evidence of this) when they just released the iPad with 512MB - but then again didn't they do the same thing last year with the iPhone 4?

I think it'll be

A5 Chip
512MB RAM
8MP Rear Camera (still @ 720p)
Facetime HD cam like MBP's

I would like to see one model for the 2 networks as well!

and I completely agree with the statement that the release will focus more on iOS 5 and how it will work with the new hardware 'better'

ARM Cortex-A9 2X @ 800GHz
PowerVR SGX543MP2
512MB RAM
32GB / 64GB Storage
8MP w/LED
HD 1080p (30FPS) Record/Playback
NFC
Wifi-Direct

+1

You literally took the words off my mouth!

You are right on the last point, HSPA+

I think Apple will call it the iPhone 4G
