Sorry but you just learned the hard way to secure your very expensive electronic products. Plus why should China Air help you? You're the one that was irresponsible with your phone. Would you have stuffed $600 in the seat pocket and gone to sleep? Most likely not so why would you do it with your phone?

I didn't think they should help me, but they were totally not being helpful by asking me to "remember" where I put it. They insisted that I lost the phone, which is clearly not what happened here. One attendant even denied that something like this has never happened before, while another attendant openly said it happens very often.

Thanks for all the tips. Yes indeed, lesson learned.

Was at a wedding last weekend
There were iPhones on every table. Mostly the ladies texting every 5 mins, taking photos, and leaving them out.

A doctor at my table forgot his under a napkin when the event was over. He and his wife were leaving.

When I reminded him to take it I was just brushed off with "I'll just use my other one if it goes missing".

Hand, pocket, charger, or car dock. Don't get in the habit of leaving 6 one hundred dollar bills ( or more) just floating around.

I wonder, if you had alerted the flight crew, whether they would have searched everyone as they disembarked. Lot's of disruption for a phone I guess, but captive audience, no?

I left my iPhone 4 in a rental truck last week when dropping it off. Locked truck, put keys in the after hours chute, and walked away. Got to work and realised what I'd done, went back and retrieved it safely once their office opened. Such a relief. Stupid mistake that I won't be repeating with my new 5.

I should probably add to this story. 3 months back my wife was returning from India with my kids and her parents. I had already returned 2 weeks earlier. She left her carry on bag at the terminal in India, containing an iPhone, iPad, a wallet with all her ID and credit cards along with $1000 in cash, and a lot of gold jewelery... Maybe around 10k worth. She didn't even realize she forgot her bag until she landed in Germany.

Unbelievably, the airport in India held the bag for us. They opened it and detailed each item inside, asking us to verify the contents by email. We had a relative pick the back up from the airport and Fedexed the contents back to us. Everything was there and intact. Needless to say, my life learned her lesson with that one.

Too bad you didn't learn the same one.

Whoever stole it must have thought that it was Goophone I5. What a rude awakening for them when they find out it's just an iPhone 5.

On a serious note, sorry to hear that, OP.

They have no right to search everyone.

When iPhone 5s began being delivered on 09/21, I met the UPS guy at 9:40 AM to accept delivery on my new device. I spent the day at home transferring stuff from my iPhone 4 and setting up & fiddling with My Precious. :D

When I turned on the local TV newscast at 6:00 PM, one of the items reported was the tale of some local guys who also got their new iPhones that morning, went to work and then decided to go out to lunch to celebrate and show off their new iPhones to their work buddies. After dazzling their friends at the table they all put their phones down on the table and began eating. Cue two brazen teenagers who walked up to their table, snatched the two new iPhones off the table and took off thru the kitchen, out the back door and down the street. Score! Teens had been lunching also and had watched the whole show.

Flabbergasted & now iPhone-less diners told the news crew "We just don't understand how this could happen." Duh.

This is a common problem at outdoor restaurants in some countries in Europe. Kids will come up to your table to sell things and place their wares over your iPhones. Then when you say "no, thanks" they quietly pick up the phones with their trinkets and walk away.

That was fortunate!
They usually bring the bomb squad robot in and then 'dispose' of any bags left unattended in airports...

When taking pictures in a seedy area or even unseedy, grip the phone tightly. Very easy to snag and run. These phones are considered to be like $500 gold bricks by douche bag thieves.

Would you leave a gold bar in the back of the seat, on your lap, etc. while you sleep?
