10MP probably with other camera improvements
CPU: 3 core most likely and a quad will probably be the 5S since the supposed hold up of the 4S was overheating problems
LTE: pretty much a definite
Screen: will probably be 3.7-4

Would you care to explain why the above items are offending (except the camera - already been discussed)?

Quad core: They should get some use out of their dual-core before upgrading. They can improve that and save quad-core for when they actually need it.

Dock connector: It's going to stay. What happens to all the existing accessories? Apple makes a lot of money from licensing the dock connector to 3rd party accessory manufacturers. And how does wireless charging work?

Paper thin weightless iPad: It would be structurally compromised by making it that thin, and then it's useless. Also, people enjoy a certain weighty feeling to their devices, if it's weightless it will feel cheap.

With the release of the 4S, I see that the iPhone 5 will be the "ultimate" iPhone / phone out there. (2012)

Specs:

iOS Version: 6 (or "iOSX", a complete OS X + iOS rewrite, not just an "adding on" of code)
RAM: 1GB
Processor: Quad Core A6 @ 1.0 to 1.2 GHz
Camera: 10 - 16 Mega-Pixel lens, with numerous technologies to make those photos "WOW" people. The iP5 is where I see Apple competing with professional cameras. The camera will also come with 1080p video recording at 60 FPS. Screen: 3.5 inches at 960x640 or 4 inches at 720p. (quad core will make it possible.) Available: October 5, 2012. (to honor Steve's last "hands-in-development" iPhone)
As with the iPad, I see the iPhone loosing it's 30-dock connector due to wireless syncing, charging, etc.

iPad specs: 1.2GHz Quad Core, 5MP rear cam, 1MP front, resolution of 2048x1536. (that quad core processor will help.) The iPad 3 will be even thinner and lighter. thanks to ultra-thin guts. (think borderline* paper thin with an amazing "weight-less" feeling to it.)

*Forget about the dock, everything will be wireless. (Charging, Syncing, even Xcode 5 would have an option of wireless app installation.)

This, and a free pony!

Introducing the iPhone 5, now with a gorgeous 4" screen and 4G LTE connectivity. It's the iPhone that should've been last year.

Great, thanks a lot guys - now my feelings for my once anticipated, used-to-be-cool new iPhone have changed for the worse. How can I live without 10+ megapixels?? How can it even function with ONLY two cores?! How can I ever wait...:(

Give the guy a break.

10 years ago, heck 5 years ago the idea of a computer being less than an inch thick (macbook air) would get you laughed out of the room.

It's possible in future years for sensors and lens to shrink.

Yeah, maybe in 5 years time this can happen, but there isn't even any experimental prototypes out there of any technology that would let camera phones compete on quality with DSLRs.

And I can't help but think that it's threads like these that end up contributing to people thinking Apple "blew it" and "disappointed" everyone because of posting up some excessively lofty expectations...

Exactly!!!

Example 1: iPhone was "late" or "delayed" this year. Fact: how can something that's unannounced and has no official release date be late?

Example 2: iPhone was a disappointment due to lack of new design, no larger screen, no 4G, etc. Fact: Apple made no indication they would include those things in the iPhone this year or ever.

All that disappointment is driven by people dreaming in the absence of information from Apple and getting attached to the ideas they themselves dream up.

Fact: the iPhone 4s is a big step up. 70% faster processing, 7x graphics performance, Siri, 1080p video, and 8mp camera with improved sensor, and CDMA/GSM hybrid tech are BIG improvements.

If apple just changed the physical appearance alone on this upgrade it'd be heralded as a huge must have upgrade, but instead - again, because of a lack of a form factor change alone - it's derided by some fanboys as no big deal and a disappointment. How shallow.

even Xcode 5 would have an option of wireless app installation.

Xcode 4.2 can already do this, albeit not reliably.

iOS Version: 6 (or "iOSX", a complete OS X + iOS rewrite, not just an "adding on" of code)

This makes no sense. A complete OS rewrite would be a) pointless and b) an incredible undertaking that takes 5+ years to get right.

what exactly would the point of 60fps video recording be unless you plan on making the clip slowmo afterwards? Nobody needs that kind of speed...films still run at 24fps today (though james cameron is trying to change that)

----------

And how does wireless charging work?

still a few years off at least but...click this

Wireless charging? Next year? Okay then...

apple has already taken out patents on wireless charging....expect it soon

apple doesnt start working on the new iphone only after its predecessor is launched

i bet the iPhone 4s took 4 months to design and finalize (if that) and we had to wait 16 months for it, there is plausible reason to believe :apple: have been busy working on something big

Sooo the iphone 4S isn't even out yet and people are already trying to make a list of features and specs they want in the next iphone? Lol i feel like people would only be happy with this iphone 4S if it had wireless charging.....or a steve jobs hologram. Actually those both sound amazing.

Add to the list:

Wireless Charging
