My predictions:

Next year's hardware will look just like this year's hardware. It will include a small antenna change that improves but does not eliminate the death grip issue. It'll come in 16/32/64 GB sizes and will advertise 4G/LTE. It will be accompanied be an announcement that FaceTime is supported over 4G, and a bunch of FaceTime compatible products and services will be announced and/or touted. The updated chip will deliver a 20-30% speed improvement. The 4G rollout will be problematic. Complaints about AT&T and/or Apple sucking will persist.

iOS 4.1 will include improvements to the notification system. Hopefully well before June 2011.

None of this will blow anybody away. I'm not expecting any ultra-exciting innovations until 2012.

the reason i cant enjoy the ip4 like i have the rest of them (and yes i have one and im typing on it right now) is because im wondering if att will let people upgrade early and if ip5 is much better than ip4 than it might be worth to wait for it...

i just wonder where apple is going with it

iPhones are released every year. AT&T lets you upgrade every year. Coincidence? I think not.

I don't think a redesign is necessary, just a tweak of the current design.
Currently, the issue is caused when someone touches the black seam bridging the 2 antenna.
If the were to move that seam to the top of the phone where no one "normal" touches, I think it will b better

iphone 5 idea

id like the next iphone to be like a laptop.where you can open the side of it and it will have a full keypad with computer screen and webcam running on mac osx.with a button for mini cds and dvds made especially for the iphone 5, usb ports in the side,4g capability,4g 3g edge and wifi facetime, talking gps, bigger battery, faster processer, still be as thin as the iphone 4,and adobe flash player.

^^^doubtful

i think the iP5 will have most of what the 4 has, but have 64gb models...bigger battery...8mp cam back...5mp cam front...not sure what else.

What should the next iPhone have

What should the next iPhone have?

By learning from my Macbook air… it must be thinner!
Features,
1. The compass is still cool
2. Maps rule
3. Various clocks calculator etc, all that is good
4. Cameras are great; leave them alone (do not put stupid 3D in there please!)
5. iOS is kicking it well. Just keep up

Possible new features,
1. Solar charging?
2. Thermocouple charging (from hand temp)?
3. Infrared light (for night video and ‘temp sensing with cam’)?
4. Solid aluminum body (like Macbook air)?
5. Thunderbolt to Macs for charging and back up or to other iPhone etc.?
6. More capacity (256gb)?
7. Enable thumb drive access to part of drive in a sand box?
8. Put the phone speaker on top, the home button on back and keep the whole front as a screen?
9. Definitely make it styled like a Macbook air, sharp edges, wedged and ports in the sides for micro SDXC cards (for music videos of course ☺)
10. Most important! Make it tuff enough that no one has to get a cheap plastic case for it.

And you had to bring back a two year old thread because why?

Not doing a complete redesign this time around would be the biggest mistake Apple could make with great phones like the One X and Lumia 900 out (which will be 6 months on the market by the time the iPhone 5 drops). While a 4" screen isn't a certainty (though I give it about 90% chance), you can bet on a completely redesigned exterior.

All I want is:

- 1GB RAM.
- Better camera - Keep megapixels the same, maybe even lower to 5MP, but put better sensor and lenses in there.
- Better front camera, 2MP.

iPhone as it is now has reached the "good enough" factor for me, just lacks 1GB RAM so even more apps can be kept in memory and camera can and should always be improved. Don't care much about LTE and quad core processors.

Interesting to see the preditions from two years ago and how many did or didn't come true with the 4S...

I thought i was half asleep when i started reading the time stamps, but then psac saw it too! I was like woah. I do have to say, I know we do the whole "new iPhone" thing right now since i think everyone is really itching for a new one since there's alot of peeps who skipped out on the whole 4s, but i think we should really seperate out iOS features and iPhone features since iOS will trickle down to the older devices (or at least most of them). Just a thought.
