I could see Apple not increasing the screen size for this reason

For comparison, here's the range of my thumb:

Here's my iPhone 4 in my hand. I think it's safe to say I could probably do with a bigger screen.

:) I swear it's not photoshopped. Now you see why I want a big screen.

I think your hands are pretty much exactly the same as mine. I was playing World of Goo earlier and couldn't see what I was doing around my finger (although that my be a limitation of the games design)

Wow, either you have humongo hands or I have child-sized hands. The phone takes up my entire palm. With that said, I will be slightly disappointed if the 5 features a screen bigger than 4". Pros? I won't be shuffling through my purses and bags. :p

I'm 6'7, I believe my hands are the same size as Jordan's. Also the angle you have taken the pic makes the phone look a little larger.

My Bro is a similar size, he's talking about getting the Samsung Note. Think that's too large for me though.

This story is depressing haha. I had pretty much resigned myself to just a 4s but is story is making me want the redesign! Haha still not getting my hopes up.

I would hope Apple would make this change, rather than just an internal upgrade. I play with a Samsung S2 this weekend and it makes the iPhone look a little dated. Not only on size and weight, but its so fast.

Well yeah, compared to the iPhone 4 it may be. The 4S on the otherhand will crush the SII. and then the SIII will crush the that etc

lol So what, you hold your phone 3" away from your face?

Exactly - I don't see the reason we need 300+ ppi on a cellphone when we have 10" iPads with almost exactly the same resolution (7 times the screen area and thus lower ppi density) that look and work great.

It's not about pixel density people.

I have a Droid X with 4.3" screen and a Body Glove case. After opening this link and reading it I was curious as to how MY hand/thumb would fit across my 4.3" screen and case. With my phone held in my left hand (I'm right handed, but the article uses left) I can easily touch any and every part of the 4.3" display with my thumb and perform any and all tasks, with said thumb. I'm a 5'11" male and do NOT have large hands. Either this person is an elf, or they are skewing the data to fit their needs. My money in on the later.

4.4 would be amazing and i'd leave Android in a second!!!!!

For the people saying they can't reach all over the bigger screens with your thumbs... How do you hold phones? If you hold a phone normally, it limits movement. If you keep your pinky under the bottom of the phone, it raises it higher and allows for not only easier clicking of the home button (your thumb doesn't have to reach down so far), and not only more stabilized handling,... but a further reach to all areas of the screen.

If you don't see what I mean, just try it. Have your phone rest on your pinky finger when handling it

Straight from the article Hard Candy CEO Tim Hickman says:

"We've placed our bets"

Which means; they're guessing. It's probably an educated guess. More educated than anyone posting here, as I haven't seen anyone mention 4.4" thus far, but still a guess.

There are many examples of insiders placing "bets" on guaranteed winners in many different fields. But it's usually ill-advised to boast about doing such a thing in public. :D

I'm just over 6 ft ... and would say i have about avg sized hands i measured out what a 4 inch screen would be and i could reach it with my thumb so for most guys id think it would work

but idk about shorter people or girls with small hands to pull it off 1 handed
