iPhone 5 users and their new headphones

Been using mine since day one, which is more than I can say for the previous Apple ear pods which I never used. Sound is decent but most of my listening is podcasts and audiobooks so my demands are not the great. They've worked well up until today. They just started cutting out every once in a while while I'm moving around. The only way to get the sound back is the pull the jack from e iPhone and then plug it back in. I may have some small breaks in the cable. I'm not all that gentle with my earphone, I really need to find some with heavier duty leads.

I use different headphones. I just got P5 and ATH M50 to use when I'm home, both for iPhone and MBP. I have Jaybird Sprint when running and I have HK AE which I have to compare with etymotic hf3 when I receive it.

I'll admit that they aren't high end phones by any stretch, although much better than the old ones, but "volume isn't very high"? I can turn mine up to ear damaging levels. You may want to go get your hearing checked.:D

Haha, I can assure you that my hearing is fine. I only have to turn up my volume on my on-ear headphones halfway or less. You probably just have a better fit with your earpods and your ears; unfortunately not everyone will have a great fit.

I also noticed the irony. :)

Taedouni, if you like the new earbuds, then why not use them as much as you want? Do you not use your new iPhone everyday even though it cost a lot more? I can understand being extra careful if the earbuds cost as much as the iPhone, but they don't. These devices are made so they can be used. What's the point in having them if you don't use them?

I am extremely careful with my iPhone. I didn't say that they were amazing. I have beats headphones by Dr Dre. I just don't like to see my new things get tangled up and dirty. I use my iPhone naked and it's just like I got it.

Been using mine since day 1. They're good enough for me. Took them out of the travel case and they haven't seen it since.

Unless you are trying to keep the earbuds in mint condition to sell them then you are going to eventually get them tangled up and dirty when using them. If you care that much about keeping them looking like new then the best solution is to not use them. Buy a different set of earbuds so you can get them tangled and dirty.

It seems to me that you are trying to see if there is anyone else who cares so much about keeping their earbud clean, neat, and in mint condition that they don't want to actually use them that much because of the fear of getting them dirty and used looking.

If that is what you're asking, then I would rather use my earbud for my personal enjoyment and not live in fear about getting them dirty. If you don't want to get them dirty then it's probably best to sell them while they are still new looking and buy a set of earbuds you don't mind getting dirty and all tangled up.

I think you are right about the fit making a huge difference in volume. These new earbuds fit my ears more snug and I believe that's the reason why they are louder for me than the previous Apple earbuds. With the new earbuds I don't have to turn the volume up as loud as I used to with the older ones.

Overall I like the new earbuds much better than the previous ones, but I know there are better sounding earbuds out there. What makes me stay with Apple earbuds is that I like the useful functionality of the built in controller especially when my iPhone is in my pockets. For example I don't have to take out my iPhone to give commands when I'm listening to music or when I get a call.

I alway leave them in new condition so they are an added bonus when I sell the phone down the road - I am a headphone whore - I have various Sennheisers, Ultimate Ears, Unique Melody and such - My phone is a phone first, but a iPod second - I love my music and no matter how much they have upgraded the Apple buds - they will never outperform the aftermarket.

If you want some good in-ear phones that can take some punishment and don't cost a bunch - try the Meelec M6 Sports headphone - they can be had below $20 and they sound 4X better than the Apple buds - the cable is sturdy.

I also have some Sennheisers with Kevlar cables - but they cost more than the iPhone...

Which Sennheisers are those?

One of my cats got hold of them 5 minutes after I opened my launch day delivered 5 when I turned my back for 2 minutes.

He brought them to me as a 'gift', after doing a good job of chewing them in to a tangled pile of mess.

I loved them. I broke them a week after I got them. Was walking, the extra cord got caught, pulled the cord out of the top of my phone, but it bent the end 90 degrees.
Pretty horrible.

They are covered by AppleCare so you should try to get a replacement. Yes, you damaged them :) and so did my wife and her's were replaced at no cost.

Mu Shures cost more than my 64gb iPhone 5. Once you use something like that you can't use the included buds. Junk by comparison.
