So my iPhone 5 is only 16gb and 11.4 of the 16 is being occupied by other data. I need to keep my messages and thats it. Is there a way I can back up only my messages and delete everything else.
i have tried backing up using pkgbackup but its filled with bugs and keeps crashing.

Its either space or the messages. Sorry. Unless you are good at SSH tunneling, there isn't much option.

install openssh, find the SMS folder (with sms.db) and you can transfer your messages over. or use iphone backup extractor and get it from an itunes backup

Messages/mms/imessage/ can take up a lot as well! And i dont see why you need to have a history at the messages from last year or two?!

i strongly suggest finding an independent way to archive them then.
