Wifey is pretty peeved about no preorders for 5S. Im pretty peeved that I have to wait till next year for the iPhone 6 since I going to skip this one. And don't get me started on the new Apple hon.

Maybe you live nowhere near an Apple store, nor a company owned cellular store?

Maybe you have to work (yes, I know people that work 12 hour shifts routinely)?

Maybe you don't want to deal with people in the store?

Maybe he meant something entirely different...let me translate:

"The iPhone 5C isn't that special. Therefore, it won't be in high demand. And thus, preorder isn't a big deal."

I still don't see the point of this device in the states. Basically an iPhone 5 with a plastic back, childish colors and a ridiculous off-contract price.

iPhone 5c for China, from the looks of it.

I love the technology in the 5S but the design and build quality still won't feel as nice as my old (still useful) Nokia C3 - nice weight, solid feel, great keypad and premium materials.

Apple, for the money we fork out, you should be able to match that.

Isn't the 5C the same price as getting the iPhone model one year behind? Seems logical to me.

Also, "Color is more than just a hue." Well duh, it's also a saturation and brightness, Apple marketing team.

At $549, just a hundred dollars shy of 5S, this was an idiotic move in pricing. The 5C should be more like $429--it would sell a little better in the iPhone 5 C(hina) market, and maybe in the States too.

Who would actually choose the 5C for a hundred dollars cheaper? I mean, look, if you're shelling out dough for an iPhone, you're already choosing premium; might as well get premium.

This thing is overpriced by about $100 per device. I seriously have no idea who would buy this...

Agree. Really not sure who the 5C is aimed at. It is barely any cheaper than the 5S yet is an inferior product and if you want coloured cases then you could just buy one for your 5S or whatever.

If this was meant for the Mainland China market then again, they've failed. I live in Hong Kong and the public and media here are extremely unimpressed with the 5C and 5S. People here were expecting it to be around $200 cheaper than it actually is. Difficult times ahead for Apple to catch up with Samsung and regain market share in Greater China.......

Why is it called a pre-order? It's an order. A pre-order would be something you do before you order something.

Steve is turning over in his grave after knowing that his “iPhone” turned to be “hon”

It's funny you mention this. While watching the Keynote, the first thing I thought when I saw this was how uncharacteristic this is for Apple. It just looks sloppy with part of the "iPhone" label showing but unreadable. Since Steve's return they've always been about image as well as usability.

I don't see why carriers won't be able to do preorders for the 5S, Apple said nothing about preorders or touched the subject of it on the keynote for the 5S. They won't have them so that people will go to the :apple: store, this is all the evil plan of Cook to get more foot traffic into apple stores, but shouldn't affect carriers if they already have enough of the product. My guess it would cost less for a carrier for you to preorder online than have to pay staff to activate the 5S.

The stores get a crap load of foot traffic on launch days anyway. They don't need some scheme to get foot traffic. All this conspiracy theory talk is freaking hilarious. You guys really need to find something more to do with your days.

My guess is the reports of the shortages are true and they will have a limited quantity on launch day. So limited that pre-orders might be unrealistic.

Food trafic on the stores is not nearly the same as it was before preorders... there is a reason they keep revamping the store app and giving freebies on it; this is just another way of them making new costumers to check out the store. It doesn't make sense that because of low quantities you have to go to a store and get it. That will just get people pissed at the carrier stores and will get another phone and lose customers since android phones of today are much better and cheaper than ever before. While limited preorders would make things more crazy for fans and they can say store stock will be very limited due to preorders and it will be constantly sold out due to demand. Also, a pre-order doesn't have to guarantee you a 20sept delivery they can say 2 weeks afterwards and so on to help w/ demand.

I think you all underestimate the market that will buy these iPhones. In a years time they will be seen all over High Schools, College Campuses, and along the sidelines of little league games. I will bet money that not only will the 5C sell like hotcakes, but they will outsell the 5S. You can archive this post and hold me to it.

Every time I go to an Apple store, the place is packed and it's hard to find someone free to help me.

THIS is why the updated the store app. They are not withholding 5s pre-orders to get foot traffic. The entire premise is absurd.

And your argument makes no sense. If stock is short, ppl will be more pissed if they don't have them in the stores. Stores or pre-order, short stock will piss ppl off...doesn't matter. So the lesser of 2 evils is having a customer facing you and have some stock vs having no stock.

Why no 5S pre-sale? So apple can use their own customers to create media buzz on launch day..

I'm seeing far too many kids and teenagers with Android phones on the sidewalks of LA to believe this. That's the problem - the pricing of the 5C won't drive people to buy the 5S, it'll drive them into the arms of Samsung, HTC, Huawei et al. My friend's teenager loves her Lumia and the 5C doesn't stand a chance of winning that business back.

I really hope you're not buying into this conspiracy theory. (Notice the crowd already present? Apple has never needed to artificially build hype...not for a long time).

Cook wants more foot traffic into the stores for people that actually buy things, it has been discussed here that he wants more people to experience the stores...
Just because you are a wiseass and don't agree it doesn't make it absurd nor nonsense. Unless you work w/ them you have a theory like all of us that can't be proven.

It's absurd to make a line and only realize they have 100 phones and you are number 300, way worse than going online and reserving a phone to arrive one month later.

Steve is turning over in his grave after knowing that his “iPhone” turned to be “hon”

That seems like a pretty big oversight over a detail that would require an easy fix (just make a wider opening to allow "iPhone" to be displayed).

I called Verizon to check on something about my account a couple hours ago and told me that I could just preorder the 5S this friday instead of waiting in line next friday and I said to her "are you sure you aren't talking about the 5C" and she told me that yes, both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C are available for preorder this Friday the 13th

Do you know if the iPhone 5s will be locked or unlocked factory with 2 years contract?

Looks like we'll just have to wait and see, because I got a less definitive answer.

Childish colors? Give me a break. I'll take anything over black and white.

Seconded. I don't understand why Apple can't take pre-orders for 5s. At the very least, provide an option to reserve and pick one up at the store on September 20.

I guess I will be logging in at September 20 12:01 am to order one online.
