If you believe that apple is going to discontinue the 4S then why keep upgrading the ios. We're now going to have the 4th ios update for the iPhone 4S.
They should have stopped at ios5 after coming with ios4 and then said if you want a newer ios then buy a new 5 device with the larger screen size. Then developers would no longer have to write apps with two different screen sizes.
Why do they keep kicking the old devices down the road with ios updates?

If they are going to release ios7 for the iPhone 4S with a 30 pin connector then they will keep on selling it through various retailers.

Isn't an ipad with LTE just a big version of an iPhone?

I would say no. The iPad serves a very different function than the iPhone. I don't think I've ever once seen anyone using an iPad as a telephone.

If Apple released an iPod Touch with cellular capabilities, what would differentiate it from the iPhone? What would the price difference be?

It would be good as a starter device for kids. Many parents don't want to spend $80-100 a month on phone service for a child. With a cellular ipod Touch, a parent could spend like $15 a month on service and then the child could use the new FaceTime Audio fuction for calls. Then parents would be saving money and if it is lost/broken, it's not as hard to get out of the contract for a device like that unlike a phone contract. Also a cellular ipod would be great for car usage. Some people don't want to burn their phone data on streaming music.

So how would an iPod Touch not be an iPhone, again?

In the iPhone section of the forum, several people have reported using iPad minis with cellular capability as a VOIP phone with T-mobile's $30/mo unlimited data plan. They use a combination of Talkatone and Google Voice.

First of all don't ever tell me what or how to think about products when forming an opinion.

Second the 4S solves everything you mentioned in your know-it-all rant.

The 4S has been selling like hot cakes and with the new partnership with China Mobile that will only increase market share. (While providing a compelling reason for users in that marketplace to upgrade next year).

Everything is conjecture at this point and this isn't the first time this rumor has floated around.

To me, in MY opinion, it makes sense financially.

----------

The problem is that too many people are hung up on the 30 pin connector.

In China that does NOT matter.

Just because it - on the surface - seems like Apple would want to unify the connectors to lightening doesn't mean they'll do so at the expense of profit margins.

The 4S stays in my opinion.

It still does NOT make sense for any reason other than NECESSITY.

I think that's what we're debating at this point: Not whether or not the 4S will remain for a few months in certain markets (it will)....but rather, WHY.

And the WHY has nothing to do with the 4S making sense financially...it makes sense due to the following factors:

1. Limited initial supply of iPhone 5C
2. Much higher demand for 5C than 4S.
3. Did I mention that the 5C is a better iPhone than the 4S and actually costs less?

So yes, the 4S very likely will still fill voids for a few months until inventory catches up......but Apple is NOT keeping the 4S as a permanent fixture in all channels for another year. Absolutely not.

If there were no such thing as the 5C, this would not be the case. But there is, so it is.

Derpa Derp....iOS 7 is available to iPhone 4 as well, which is as dead in the water as the 4S and 5 come September 10th.

Its that whole "hundreds-of-millions-of-already-sold-devices" thing. Has nothing to do with what is being sold going forward. Nothing.

Bigger screen

,I recently used my daughters old Samsung Galaxy 3 and loved the size, but was glad to go back to my Iphone. I won't be buying any new Iphone until the screen is close to that size, 4" isn't going to cut it.

I'm thinking most people (including me) did not see this one coming, but Mr. Kuo is right once again, this time with his prediction on the iPhone 5C replacing the iPhone 5 & the iPhone 4S continuing to be available for sale.

I rest my case, Apple continues to sell the iPhone 4S with the 30 pin connector and not through a 3rd party.
