So Apple recommends replacing the phone? I guess they're going to be replacing a TON of phones then. I'll take it to AT&T this week
Yep 4 degrees off on bottom and side here. Also tested it with a racing game and car noticeably veers to the right when flat on its side. ---------- There was no duplicate topic for the 5S. I believe there was one troll in that thread that posted about 10 times in 2 hours, which is the only reason I can think of why the thread was closed.
Mine also exhibits this issue. Is it worth trying to replace it considering the low stock levels? Do all 5S have this problem? We need more people with 5S to test this and confirm.
That was the thread I started. It got closed because it ended with a bunch of bickering according to the moderator. There was a user that thought we were being too picky and that this was not an issue. I am sure he will hit this one soon. This is definitely an issue as many people are reporting 4 degrees or more off. Most can agree 1 is within tolerance. I just went to the Apple store today and tested a couple of 5S's and they were both off 4 degrees or so. I know some are skeptical and feel this is acceptable but wait until you try to play airplane or racing games especially ones that don't let you calibrate within the app.
I would not bother replacing the phone as it seems most do it to some extent. My second one was a bit better but still of and the power button was loose and it made a horrible sound when vibrating. I am sticking with the original and hope Apple will come up with a solution. In theory this can be fixed with software but its up to Apple to decide what to do.
It's a big deal when dealing with apps that use the accelerometer feature or if you ever want to rely on the compass
I am not interested in bickering. I encourage everyone to submit it to the Apple feedback page for remedy. I use my phone's level at times while measuring job sites to check a roof slope or a battered wall. I hope it gets addressed. I also hope this doesn't impact other apps that get data from the gyroscope- and when including the new M7 chip one does have to wonder what trickle through errors may arise. The car veering to the right on a level surface, while just a game, is a good example. Now what happens when that same error gets tossed into all the fitness and lifestyle apps that will rely on that inaccurate gyro?
I really don't understand that and completely disagree with the mods decision to close the thread. Just block the one person who was causing all the problems!
I just tested my iPhone 5S and iPad mini on the same flat surface with a levels app. The iPad was at 0 degrees vertically and 2 degrees horizontally. The iPhone 5s was at 7 degrees vertically and 4 degrees horizontally. So there is clearly a big difference between the two devices. It's obviously an issue, but whether it's an easily fixable 7.1 software update or a hardware issue I'm not sure.
I tested our 2 iPhone 5S's, both are showing -3 degrees on a flat surface. I hope this can be fixed by a software update.
I don't know, man. One of the phone's advertising points was the motion processor. It's a bit like saying that the camera doesn't work well, and that if you wanted a photo, you should get a camera, or a clock for time, etc.
Mine is -3 to -4 on level surface. I went to the Apple store try to get an exchange, but then confirmed that they will not be replacing it with a brand new retail phone, but their typical "new" phone in a plastic non-marked box. For those of you who may care about unlocking your phone and use it abroad(I have AT&T), I had my iPhone 4 replaced under warranty with those new/refurbished phone in black plastic box, and when my 2 year was up, AT&T said they have no record of the phone and could not help me unlock it, even after providing the IMEI and ESN#. When I contacted Apple, they told me to call AT&T, so I ended up with an phone that's locked even after contract expiration. So I decided to wait for Best Buy (where I bought the iPhone 5s) to get a replacement and get it replaced with a new phone. I wonder if it is specific to a particular batch of the iPhone 5s, whether it's 16/32/64gb or a particular color model or a particular series of serial number batches. For what it's worth, my phone is space gray 64GB AT&T iPhone 5s. And when I entered my serial # into the link http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html , I get the following result: Nice Name: iPhone 5s Machine Model: iPhone6,1 Family name: A1533 Model Number: ME311 Group1: iPhone Group2: Generation: CPU speed: 1.3GHz Screen size: 4 inch Screen resolution: 1136x640 pixels Colour: Space Gray Production year: 2013 Production week: 34 (August) Model introduced: 2013 Capacity: 64GB Memory - flavour: xx Factory: DN (China, Chengdu - Foxconn)
So did you get a new phone? If so did it act the same way? At the moment I'm thinking to use the 'wait and see' approach, if it isn't resolved by the next software update I'll take it to the genius bar for a replacement.
