200 million iOS devices already running iOS 7?! That's nothing short of astounding. It hasn't even been out one full week yet. Most of the comments I've heard about iOS 7 from friends and colleagues has been very positive. A lot of "I feel like I got a new phone that runs faster" type remarks, which is always good for consumers. I think Apple knocked one out of the park with this one. "Can't innovate anymore my as$."

That's a lot phones sold! Plus 200 million iOS 7 upgrades. Seems to be a success on both fronts.

I mean, sure they broke a record and all, but they also added several countries for the initial launch. I think that makes a big deal.

well since the 5s is in such short supply, I guess the 5c is selling well too to hit this kind of number. I know that I really like my 5c :) and another family member likes their 5s!!

Boom!

Apple just screwed Samsung, Google and Android. The high-end smartphone market is saturated my ass....

Surely, if you are going to compare the sales of the 5S and 5C, you should compare it to the last year sales of the 5 AND the 4S (same internal relation as the 5S & 5C have).

Also, how many of that 9 million are 5C's and 5S'?

Also, they also introced their products in new markets, so how are the sales compared if you only look at the US?

You can't just blindly look at that 9M number, doesn't represent the evolution of the sales per specific market.

Not surprised really, these are the best iPhones Apple has ever made and put them back out in front of the competition again. Just wish I didn't have to wait to get my hands on a 5s.

Okay so the 9 M total is combined with both, and not just the 5S. So really I don't think it nearly doubled from last year. Probably 7 M for 5S and 2 M for 5C?

Congrats Apple for knocking it out of the park once again. It will be interested to see the sales for overseas.

Not bad when you consider how limited the supply has been. Wonder what the number would have looked like had they had enough phones on hand to fully meet demand.

Not surprising. And no - we won't see a breakdown anytime soon.

In other news - while a minor point.. "The nine million iPhone units sold over the launch weekend nearly doubles the "over five million" units of the iPhone 5 sold in its opening weekend last year. "

No - it doesn't nearly double in my opinion. OVER 5 is more than 5. And even if 5 even, then doubling it would leave 10%. For me - and the fact we're talking at least 1M - that's a significant difference. But I am probably splitting hairs with the editorial comment :)

Key word, "nearly doubles" which is true. 5 times 2 = 10. They sold 9. If you make 50,000 a year and switch jobs to 90,000, wouldn't you be bragging to your family that you make "nearly double" your previous salary? I know I would.

Well, just imagine if they had enough stock for those who waited in line only to be told "nope, we don't have any". 9 Million is only about 2.8% of the Entire US Subscribers. When we tack on the rest of the world of subscribers, I would hate to see what that number is. Selling 9 million phones is a lot, but not when you compare it to over 330 Million subscribers alone in the US. I wonder what the number is of people waiting to get phones there were ordered and are not shipping until October?

Better have this as a favorite for those that post later on that Apple is not innovative, apple is doomed posts show up. Will stick this in their face, and wait for a simple minded reply. :D

i don't get how this is news, when 60% of iPhone users (probably 80%+ iPhone 4S and 50%+ iPhone 5 users) are just upgrading "in contract" i would say the bigger question is why is it ONLY nine million ?

(Personally im in the whole number cycle, on a 5, and skipping to the 6 with my contract upgrade next year)
