iPhone 5S AT&T Possible Pre-Order on 9/13?

When I was talking to Apple they said that there are no pre-orders of the 5S and that you could go get one in store at 8AM but according to this chat rep from AT&T, you can pre-order the 5s from them on the 13th.. Not sure about it though..

CSR: All stores will have it on the 20th. You can pre order them on the 13th at a store or online.

Just tried chatting with an AT&T rep and asked the same question.

Her response:

Thank you for your interest in the new iPhone 5s and 5c. While Apple announced the new phones to their lineup today, more information on them will be available soon! Can I help you with anything else?

Yeah probably, but who knows, there might. I don't have AT&T, so I chatted with a T-Mobile representative and she said they're expecting preorders to start on the 13th for both the 5S and 5C.

I don't see why the carriers couldn't do it but I have a feeling that if Apple isn't doing it, they don't want the carriers doing it either.

My local radio in between pop songs said they released new iphones today and there was no bigger screen and one was a 5c for cheaper. Even though these devices sell Apple wants to bring back the local news crews filming these lines on launch day and driving up future demand.

I have spoken to two different reps from att and both said that the 5s will be available for preorder. Why can't we get a straight answer?

I have a feeling by tomorrow we'll have more information. I'm going to try on Friday morning anyways.

No offense to CSR's but they're the last people I'd trust for info like this; they're responsible for handling a wide array of problems/questions and very specific info such as availability of one sub-model is unlikely to be something they've focused on.

In any event the 13th will be here in two days and you'll know for sure by the presence or lack of a preorder page on ATT's website.

... and if there's no preorder, I bet the world will continue spinning and life will go on. There are far more important things to worry about than having the newest Apple gizmo on the first day of availability.

AT&T chat reps are completely clueless. I wouldn't trust a thing they say. If you really want to get an answer, go into an AT&T corporate store, not an authorized reseller. The kids that work in those places usually know what they are talking about.

This sucks. I have a bad back and have NO desire to stand in a friggin' line all morning, hoping I get the color & capacity 5S I want.

They should have preorders for BOTH phones.


FAIL.

An AT&T rep once told me that a magical unicorn named iPhonia would come flying by (wouldn't that make it a Pegasus with a horn??? I digress...) and crap iPhones at our doorsteps minutes after midnight on launch day.

They want you to go away. They don't want to have to answer "why not", and if they are later proven wrong what are you going to do, sue them?

They can swear up and down, they can take your "pre-order", and then you can be left out in the cold... OR, you can wait in line.

Of course the other option is to wait until they allow orders on the website, order it, and get it 2 days later than people who COULD wait in line.

It's a horrible, horrible proposition, but I bet you'll survive :p

What is the point of being snarky? I just do not understand why people feel the need to come back with ******* comments to questions or concerns that people genuinely have. Does it make people feel better to make such condescending comments?

Went to a local Radio Shack today to ask about 5s on the 20 and pre-order. Was told they will have the 5s on the 20 and be taking pre-orders on the 13 for the 5s. Not my favorite place to shop but they are one of the only places within 50 miles of where I live.

What do I have to lose by coming in on the 13 and trying to pre-order (or reserve)?
