Before I got my Galaxy S3 two years ago, I was using a Desire Z which had a 3.7" screen. My first impression of the GS3 was that it felt really big. The 4.8" screen took some time to get used to, but after a few weeks, the size no longer bothered me.

I just started using an iPhone 5S a few months ago. The 4" screen feels so tiny compared to my GS3. I don't have a problem using the iP5S, but the small screen does bother me. I would have liked a larger screen.

Regarding one-handed use, I find with iOS, you have to press a button on the top left corner of the screen often. With a 3.5" or 4" phone, you can reach that part of the screen more easily than with a 4.8" phone when only holding and operating the phone with your right hand. On Android, I hardly ever need to reach that corner of the screen. My right thumb can reach the rest of the screen comfortably while holding the phone with my right hand. While using my GS3, I don't have any issues using it one-handed.

A couple of years ago, Apple had a TV ad that said their 4" screen enables people to reach every corner of the screen comfortably with their thumb. Now that their new phones will be larger, it will no longer be the case that you can reach all corners of the screen comfortably with your thumb. I wonder if they would change the way the back button on iOS apps are placed. I find that on iOS, the button that brings you back to the previous screen is usually at the top left corner of the screen.

i was on an iphone 4 and i switched to an android phone with a 5' display because the screen size is perfect for me.

Ive got big hands and the screen space for a bigger keyboard is much welcome.

However i feel im drifting back to the iphone 5 because of the apps, having the same apps on both my ipad and my phone would greatly help me in my studies and work, ive got lots of documents and ebooks and android just doesnt do that right like how Apple does. =/ might get an iphone 5s next month.

Apps are getting better with the swipe back gesture. Although there still are some, most of my apps that place a back button upper left I can swipe right to left to go back.

I like the "lazy' back swipe implemented in the FlipBoard and older versions of the MacHash apps. I think this will be important when the larger screens arrive.

I wouldn't say no to a 4.7"-5" iPhone if someone offered me one, but I'm okay with the size of the 5s. It's perfectly fine for email, facebook, twitter, Google Map directions, texting, and music, which are my primary uses for my phone. These days I use my Nexus 7 for most casual web surfing and everything else that doesn't require a full PC.

The year 1999

"hey guys do you think I'll ever need more than 128mb of ram??"

"No way! You'll never use more than that!"

Silly analogy. There is an ideal size for a phone you hold in your hand. People in ten years will not be using 20" phones if they still have phones.

The ideal size for a phone is absolutely under 4" but the problem is, people want more screen real estate to view their content, so there will always be compromise in these two areas.

I think 4.7 inch is perfect, because some kind of people do not prefer very large screen, so that's why people generally people use 4.7 inch to 5 inch, i think that should be perfect normally. :)

if Apple can make an iPhone with the screen dimensions of the Nexus 5, with an edge-to-edge display. I'll be happy for the rest of my days.

As it is the 5s is almost spot on, but i find it the screen is lacking a little width and the edge bezels are becoming more noticeable (Thanks LG and the G2/G3)

Seriously though.

Apple makes an ipad and an ipad mini.

Why cant they make a phablet, and a phone?

Seems like they will win a bigger market share than they did with the 5s and 5c concept.

I personally don't like the swipe back gesture. I find that if you don't swipe perfectly horizontally, it doesn't swipe back. Sometimes it takes me a couple of tries to go back.

It's inconsistent. Often the slightest scrolling to the edge of a webpage slides me back to the former page when I don't want to, and yet sometimes it takes two or three determined swipes to get back to the previous page when I do.

I think that the 5s screen size is perfect, for me. Not everyone is the same, and not everyone has the same size hands. I have small hands, so the 4 inch screen, and the footprint of the 5s is perfect! I have a 4.7 inch iPhone mock up, and I cant reach every corner of the scree like I can on my 5s :)

honestly the iPhone 6 mock ups look gigantic for a phone that only has a 4.7inch screen.
